Election Day

On Saturday, October 17, there will be 23 open locations for you to cast your vote, and you'll be free to choose the polling site that works best for you. Just like the advance polls, all voting locations are wheelchair accessible and will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The full list of locations and a map are available here.

Did you pre-register to vote in August, or are you already registered with Elections BC? You’ll be able to cast your ballot right away. If you aren’t registered, don’t worry — you can fill out the required forms at the polling station.

Note: Besides our city’s Election Day on October 17, there will also be advance polls open for the provincial election from October 16 to 21. This means that both municipal and provincial polling stations may be open on the same day. If so, look for City of Coquitlam signs when you arrive to ensure you’re at the right place.

Watch our website and social media channels for the results after polls close at 8 p.m. on voting day and all the votes are counted.

Two Elections, Two Votes: A Note On Overlapping Election Periods

In addition to the municipal election, a provincial election has been declared for Saturday, October 24. Eligible voters will elect a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for their riding.

You’ll see campaigns for both levels of government at the same time, and some advance voting days will overlap. Remember: these are two separate elections with different voting locations and days to vote. In Coquitlam, you can vote at any of the 23 city election locations, while Elections BC will send out “Where to Vote” cards to registered voters for the provincial election.

We acknowledge with gratitude and respect that the name Coquitlam was derived from the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ (HUN-kuh-MEE-num) word kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (kwee-KWET-lum) meaning “Red Fish Up the River”. The City is honoured to be located on the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm traditional and ancestral lands, including those parts that were historically shared with the q̓ic̓əy̓ (kat-zee), and other Coast Salish Peoples.
