Archives Update

Over the course of this last month or so, the Archives conducted oral history interviews with members of the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society (DHAS). The interviews highlight the history of the society and the contributions of its volunteers. What shines through is the strength of this non-profit organization and its members’ dedication to the community. Please look forward to these going up online in late June. We also conducted an oral history interview with Lisa Hoglund about her work with the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation and its role in supporting the important work of Delta Hospital. Our oral histories can be viewed online on our search database. https://deltaarchivesmuseum.andornot.net/

Curator's Corner

Right: DE2023.16.1, Flag, courtesy of the Delta Heritage Society.

Happy Pride Month! In June, the City of Delta honours and celebrates the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. This Progress Pride flag is the first 2SLGBTQIA+-related object to be donated to the collection. It was used and donated by a participant of the 5th annual (2023) “Pride flag-raising" ceremony held in front of City Hall. A number of flags were provided by the City of Delta to participants, free of charge, to wave during the event and subsequent picture taking.

The donor notes: “It was an honour to be able to participate in the 5th annual Pride flag-raising ceremony in front of Delta City Hall and stand beside those in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community as an ally. I hope the world can continue to come together and provide a safe space for equity seeking groups, including the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. It is also an honour to work for a city that so overtly supports this community. Way to go Delta!”.
