AT CENTRE LAC-BROME. | Fulford Road Rehabilitation: Work Is Progressing! | In June, the Town of Brome Lake undertook the complete rehabilitation of Fulford Road over a 7.5-kilometre stretch. This major project is valued at nearly $7 million. Work is ongoing, and the first layer of asphalt was placed at the beginning of August. Although a few rainy days resulted in occasional delays to the paving work, the project has benefited from generally favourable conditions to date, allowing the work to progress as planned. The contractor has implemented dust-control measures and has been asked to strengthen them further. As for the paving work in the second phase, between Davis Road and Brome Road, it is scheduled to begin in early September. We thank you for your patience and cooperation during the completion of this important project. | Unpleasant Odour on Bondville: Situation Update Over the past few days, the Town has been informed of an unpleasant odour in the Bondville Street area, more specifically between Montagne Street and Richard Street. Although this phenomenon has been observed for several years, mainly during low-flow periods, it is particularly pronounced this year. To assess the condition of the sewer system and detect any possible accumulation, obstruction or other anomaly, the Town arranged for a camera inspection following the reports received. The inspection did not reveal any new significant anomaly. An outdated section of the sanitary sewer located between Harvey Street and Montagne Street (85 m) had already been identified following a break that occurred in the spring. Its replacement is scheduled for fall 2026. Residents: if a peddler or solicitor comes to your door, you may ask to see their permit to verify that they are authorized to carry out their activities within the territory. This measure, which applies to raccoons, striped skunks, gray and red foxes, as well as coyotes and their hybrids, is intended to curb the spread of rabies. Cases were also reported in 2025 and 2024. To report a wild animal suspected of having rabies, call 1-877-346-6763, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or submit a report using the online form. Vegetation along the shoreline acts as a natural filter: it slows rainwater runoff, helps retain sediment, and absorbs some of the nutrients carried from surrounding properties, including phosphorus and nitrogen. When excessive amounts of these nutrients enter the lake, they can contribute to eutrophication, a process that promotes excessive algae growth and may lead to cyanobacterial blooms. These blooms can alter the water’s appearance and quality and may pose health risks to people and animals, particularly when toxins are present. A well-designed shoreline buffer can be both attractive and functional. It can provide habitat for birds and butterflies, support the growth of berry-producing plants, and offer shade that helps keep the shoreline and shallow water cooler. Visit the Town’s website to learn how you can improve your shoreline buffer. | Environmental Grant Program: Take Advantage of Financial Assistance for Stormwater Management The Town of Brome Lake encourages residents to take practical steps to manage stormwater on their properties. Through its Environmental Grant Program, eligible property owners can receive financial assistance to install a rain garden or purchase a rain barrel. These measures help collect rainwater, reduce the need for watering, limit water accumulation on the property and enhance its landscaping. They also reduce runoff and help protect water quality by capturing stormwater at its source, before it carries pollutants into watercourses and the lake. To learn more about the eligibility requirements and apply for financial assistance, consult the program details. | Pesticides: Are You Familiar With the Municipal Regulations? | The Town of Brome Lake reminds residents of the importance of complying with the municipal by-law governing the use of pesticides and fertilizers. These regulations aim to protect public health, water quality and the environment. Pesticides and fertilizers can harm beneficial insects, pollinators and wildlife. They can also be carried by rain into watercourses and the lake, which may contribute to the deterioration of water quality. As a general rule, the use of pesticides for cosmetic purposes is prohibited, except in certain situations provided for in the by-law. Depending on the circumstances, a municipal permit may be required before any application. | | The Town also encourages the adoption of environmentally friendly maintenance practices, such as manual weeding, composting, choosing suitable plants and creating habitats for natural predators, such as birds, which help control harmful insects. Take the time to consult the municipal by-law to learn about the applicable requirements and ensure that you comply with the regulations currently in force. | Once again this year, the Town of Brome Lake is pleased to offer a program of free activities as part of Les Journées de la culture, taking place from September 25 to 27.
