More important dates and deadlines | UBC Giving Day returns to campus today Last year’s UBC Giving Day brought together students, staff, faculty, alumni, and the UBC community to raise over $500,000 in 24 hours to support students, research, community projects, and more. This year, UBC Giving Day is showcasing many important causes, seven of which directly impact you here at UBCO! Take part in the celebration by joining us outside the UNC from 12 to 1 pm for: - A photo booth and social media contest

- Lawn games
- B.A.R.K. therapy dogs
- A visit from Scorch, the UBC Okanagan Heat mascot along with an interactive demonstration with Heat Men's Rugby

Learn more | April 7: UBC Southern Medical Program Community Admissions information session The Southern Medical Program is hosting an evening information session for prospective applicants to the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s MD Undergraduate Program. Learn about the admission requirements, application process, and how the program is training the next generation of physicians for our province. The event will be held on Thursday, April 7 from 4:30 to 5:45 pm in Room 257 of the Reichwald Health Sciences Centre. Presenters include Dr. Shahin Shirzad, Assistant Dean, Admissions, UBC Faculty of Medicine, and current Southern Medical Program students. A Zoom link will be provided for those who cannot attend in person. Group lessons are a great way to learn all aspects of the game in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. The student lesson package costs $79. Let's get started | Apply for the new Student Directed Seminars program Have you ever wanted to design your own seminar? Do you have a topic in mind that is not currently offered at UBCO? The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences has recently launched a Student Directed Seminars program, which provides upper-year undergraduate students with the opportunity to propose, coordinate, and lead their own 3-credit seminar class with a small group of peers. Suitable candidates will have a strong academic background and leadership experience to translate well to a classroom environment. Students are encouraged to attend an information session on April 12, April 29, May 6, or May 12. The deadline for applications is May 31. Learn more | Vancouver Black Library Book Donation Drive The UBC Okanagan Library is helping to organize a book drive to collect a variety of Black literature to support the Vancouver Black Library (VBL). Spearheaded by UBC student Maya Preyshon, the VBL is a space to sign out books for free and act as a "study space, a chill space, and a safe space" catering to the needs of the Black community. Book donations can be left at the Library Service Desk. Find out more | Okanagan School of Education launches renewed Teaching English and Additional Languages (TEAL) Post-Baccalaureate Certificate Receive your Teaching English and Additional Languages (TEAL) post-baccalaureate certificate (12-credits) at UBCO! The certificate is designed to prepare students who are new to teaching and includes a practicum component. The certificate is open to students with a minimum of third-year standing. Courses will take place online and on campus. Learn more | April 8: Unwind (Identity - A Voyage of Discovery) Unwind is a social event for people who are interested in sharing their stories and/or listening to the stories of others. The theme of Unwind this year is "Identity: A Voyage of Discovery". Topics include adjusting to new cultures (transitioning to Kelowna or moving to a new country), clash of cultures (expectations of who we should be vs. who we want to be; our ethnic culture vs. Canadian culture), and who we are now (how did we get here?).
