Federal Support for Businesses Affected by U.S. Tariffs

The Government of Canada has announced $7.5 billion in new and enhanced measures to help businesses and workers manage the impacts of U.S. tariffs and ongoing trade uncertainty:

• Regional Tariff Response Initiative: An additional $1.5 billion to help SMEs adapt to tariff pressures, including liquidity support.
• BDC’s Pivot to Grow: $500 million in new liquidity support to help businesses manage immediate cash-flow pressures.
• Canada Strong Diversification Fund: $2 billion to support tariff-affected businesses with shovel-ready projects and capital maintenance.
• Rapid Response Supports: $3.5 billion to help workers and employers through training, income support and workforce retention measures.

Call for Walls: 2027 Community Mural Program

The City of Richmond is looking for businesses, property owners, stratas and non-profit organizations with prominent, publicly visible walls as sites for murals to be painted in 2027.

Through the Richmond Community Mural Program, selected sites will be matched with a pre-qualified artist to create a vibrant public artwork that reflects Richmond’s unique character and neighbourhoods.

Apply by September 28. Selected applicants will be notified in early October.

As restoration of the heritage buildings at Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site nears completion, the City of Richmond is exploring the future possibility of gating the park space and / or introducing paid admission.

The City is seeking input from the business community to provide an informed business and economic perspective on the potential economic impacts of these options, including:

• The potential effect of admission fees on local and regional visitation and tourism-related spending
• How changes to access could affect Britannia Shipyards’ role as a destination within Richmond’s heritage and visitor economy
• Broader economic considerations for local businesses, tourism operators and the community
