TRANSPORTATION MASTER PLAN SURVEY

Have you taken the Transporation Master Plan Survey?

Your experiences, challenges and ideas matter to us. By taking the survey we can better understand how the transporation system supports community objectives and future growth.

ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT DESIGN COMPETITION

The District of Squamish is pleased to announce the winners of its Accessory Dwelling Unit design competition!

The competition was launched in March to help increase the supply of small-scale housing options in Squamish as part of the Squamish Housing Action Plan, funded by the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation Housing Accelerator Fund.

Residents who wish to build the winning designs on their property will be able to purchase the Pre-Reviewed Plans directly from the architects and design firms. Building permit applications that are submitted for the Pre-Reviewed Plans will be placed in a priority sequence.

SQUAMISH RECYLE DEPOT UPDATE

The District has issued a Temporary Use Permit (TUP) to permit the proposed use on the site. The applicant has applied for a Business Licence Change for the operation of the depot. We look forward to receiving further information from the applicant in order to satisfy our permitting requirements.

All Recycle BC materials continue to be accepted for recycling at the Squamish Landfill. GFL continues to accept some recycling materials not covered by the Recycle BC curbside collection program, including batteries, electronics, lightbulbs and other materials.

We thank you for your patience during this time.

PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE - MAMQUAM BLIND CHANNEL

In-water piling is expected to resume beginning August 19, 2024 to support the structure of the new pedestrian bridge. The pedestrian bridge is expected to be complete this winter.

This work is being done in compliance with the District of Squamish Noise Regulation Bylaw along with federal authorization from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and District authorization via a servicing agreement and other environmental permits.

BRENNAN PARK FIELD HOUSE

Council endorsed the replacement of a Brennan Park ‘Field House’ facility in the current Five-Year Financial Plan.

The facility may include:

  • Public washrooms
  • Public change rooms
  • Mechanical room for Splash Park
  • Covered area (pending budget)
  • Park department space (pending space availability)

The estimated cost of construction for the proposed facility is budgeted at $2.5M, however, the District since became aware of an opportunity in that Anthem Centennial Developments no longer required their current 2,600 square foot presentation centre. That building was originally scheduled to be demolished by July 23, 2024. It has been relocated for re-purpose at Brennan Park for the Field House. This project will help save a great deal of cost, GHG emissions and time, and divert waste from the Squamish Landfill. Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen.

AGE FRIENDLY COMMUNITY PLAN

Age-friendly communities allow for healthy, safe and equitable aging. To help create our plan, the District of Squamish is reaching out to community members of all ages, especially seniors who are comfortable  sharing their experiences.

You can share your opinions through a short survey, in person through our comment boxes at The 55 Activity Centre and Westwinds, or by contacting our Equity and Inclusion Coordinator Keely Kidner to learn more and share: kkidner@squamish.ca
