Save the date! GivingTuesday is next week

A man and woman are sitting on a couch in the library and smiling down at a baby girl. Instead of looking at a book in its mother's hands, the baby girl is smiling, with her hands in the air.

What's special about December 3? It's GivingTuesday! In a time that's usually focused on holiday sales, GivingTuesday is about showing up for causes we believe in, giving to those in need and doing good.

This year, our library is launching a week-long donation campaign (December 7-12) to raise $3,000 for services, programs, materials and new builds that library lovers like you have come to enjoy - and we need your help.

Help support your local library

If you've visited one of our branches, you know that libraries are more than books; they are spaces where communities grow and thrive.

Library users can tap into a wealth of free resources (like streaming music and movies, public computers and Wi-fi, family events and research databases), but the library is also a place where everyone is welcome; where people can gather; or simply read a book or piece together a puzzle. It's one of the few places people can go without having to spend a dime.

This year, with your help, we are hoping to raise money to enhance the services and resources that bring people together, such as improving our children's collection, funding programs and literacy-focused community events and developing our new Masset library and Haida Language Immersion Lab (to preserve the language).

Your donation can make the difference between a good library system and a great one and allow us to continue to offer the free resources that help our communities flourish. Click one of our 'donate now' links and choose to donate either to the library generally, or our new Masset branch. You can also buy library-themed merchandise at your local branch. All proceeds go back into your library system.

Give to the new Masset library and language lab

Help preserve the Haida language and create a new community space with a donation to the Masset library.

Construction of the new $4.2-million library and Haida Language Immersion Lab in Masset B.C. is underway. Once complete, it'll feature an learning space focusing on knowledge transfer through technology and language preservation, study and reading areas, a bookable meeting room and more.
