Highlights from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District Board of Directors’ Meeting of November 4, 2021


The TNRD Board of Directors held its inaugural regular Board Meeting in-person and via Zoom, returning to the boardroom of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District building in Kamloops, in adherence with the guidelines for organized gatherings as part of Step 3 of BC’s COVID-19 Restart Plan. Board Chair Re-elected, New Vice-Chair Appointed

Board Chair Ken Gillis was re-elected after a vote by the Board, following a secret ballot. Barbara Roden was appointed as Vice-Chair, as there were no further nominations. Each year at the inaugural Board meeting, the TNRD Board of Directors elects one of its members as Chair and one other as Vice-Chair for the coming year.

Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2744

The Board voted to rescind a resolution to schedule a public hearing for Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 2744 in conjunction with a regular board meeting, and delegated authority to Directors Ward Stamer, Mel Rothenburger and Bill Kershaw to schedule a public hearing. The zoning bylaw amendment proposed would rezone a portion of an Adams Lake Property to C4: Recreational Commercial, including a site-specific provision to enable a resort, RV park and two caretaker units. Motion Presented on Climate Action Committee

Director Arjun Singh presented a motion requesting that the Board establish a Select Committee on Climate Action to provide advice to the Board of Directors and recommend policies and plans to assist the TNRD to take the necessary steps to adapt, mitigate and reduce climate change impacts. The Board voted for the motion to be tabled until the December 17, 2021 Committee of the Whole meeting.
