Student Tech Support

The Student Support Analyst is located at the Library Service Desk. Students can come by in-person for tech-related questions including:

  • Canvas and other UBC learning technologies
  • Access to UBC programs and software
  • Microsoft Office
  • Connecting to Wi-Fi
  • Printing on campus
  • Troubleshooting software issues
  • General IT Questions

Or they can submit a ticket for email support at students.helpdesk@ubc.ca.

Zoom Security Codes

Zoom has implemented a one-time password (OTP) security feature, also known as a verification code, to mitigate account hijackings due to compromised or weak credentials and help keep your account more secure.

UBCO IT Support for Non-UBC Devices

Hardware or software purchased directly by staff and faculty from retailers without consulting UBCO IT, may not perform well in a UBC setting. Our support team is not be able to repair or support these devices due to lack of enterprise support features, warranty limitations, and application licensing issues. If employees do not qualify for CRP equipment or require additional devices for hybrid work, please contact us for advice.

UBCO Studios Loans Hub

UBC Studios has relaunched its on-campus lending program. Borrowers can check out and return gear from 9 to 4 pm, Tuesday through Friday.

Microsoft is rolling out a lot of new features that may be of use to you and/or your teams:

  • Simple markup options in Word for Web
  • SmartCite for Word
  • Microsoft Lists
  • Chat with self

  • RDM Strategy Town Halls
    | September 21 | 11:00 am - 12:00 pm PST // ADM006 or via Zoom
    • Have your say on UBC's new draft Research Data Management Strategy. An initial draft has been created based on consultations with the UBC community in late 2021 and early 2022 following the Research Infrastructure Self-Evaluation (RISE) model. The town halls will now take place to hear your feedback on the draft. A web form will be available to gather input from those unable to attend the sessions.

  • UBC Research Computing Back to School Bootcamp
    | October 3-7 | In person or virtual // FREE
    • The UBC ARC team will offer hands-on training on UBC ARC Sockeye and UBC ARC Chinook, referencing the research lifecycle and practical tips and tricks to help attendees apply lessons learned immediately in their research. Registrants can attend in-person or virtually. Those who attend in person will benefit from multiple ARC staff supporting them during the instruction. All disciplines and skill levels are welcome. There is no cost for the training.

  • IRP Student Virtual Town Hall
    | October 3 | 2:00 pm PST
    • UBC is almost one year away from launching Workday Student, the renewed student information system. The IRP Student’s Virtual Town Hall will feature UBC leadership discussing the future of the university, information about when UBC will move to the new system and a Q&A session.
