Graduating students celebrate at Spring Convocation and BCIT presents Dr. Indira Samarasekera with an honorary doctorate

Last week, we celebrated with more than 3,500 students who crossed the stage at BCIT's Spring 2022 Convocation, our first in-person graduation celebration in two years. Our newest graduates join the growing family of 200,0000 BCIT alumni who are making a difference in every sector around the world.

BCIT also proudly presented Dr. Indira V. Samarasekera, former President of the University of Alberta and world-renowned metallurgical engineer with an Honorary Doctorate of Technology for her outstanding leadership and contributions to the community.

A father’s pride: how a son’s tragedy inspired 35 years of generosity supporting students

In 1975 when he was 15 years old, Ken Garrett got his first big break in radio on CJAT-AM calling himself "Super Kid". His on-air personality would not only jump-start this BCIT Broadcast alum's passion for broadcasting but also foreshadow his real-life heroism in a tragedy that cost him his life nearly 15 years later. Dr. Carole Taylor donates $150K to enhance learning for Broadcast and Media students

A heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Carole Taylor, O.C., Honorary Doctorate of Technology, BCIT for her generous $150,000 donation to enhance the learning experience of BCIT Broadcast and Media students! This incredible gift means significantly more students will now have access to more equipment including cameras, teleprompters, and a tricaster.

 

TK Foundation donates $382K towards barriered youth in Enhanced Bridge Watch program

TK Foundation generously donated $382,400 to provide barriered youth with access to marine training, industry knowledge, and individualized support at BCIT. The donation will be used towards the BCIT Enhanced Bridge Watch Rating for Barriered Youth program within the School of Transportation. The full-time, 17-week program includes a combination of hands-on training and online learning opportunities available to eligible BCIT students. Thank you, TK Foundation!
