2025 Town Budget Meetings Rescheduled On December 23, 2024, the 2025 Proposed Budget was released including the 2025 operating budget, a five-year capital budget and proposed Fees and Charges. The purpose of the proposed budget is to serve as a starting point for budget discussions with Council and members of the public. Special Committee of the Whole Meetings scheduled for the week of January 7 to review and deliberate the budget were postponed due to an unexpected emergency involving senior staff. The meetings have been rescheduled to Tuesday, January 14, Friday, January 17 and Wednesday, January 22, beginning at 9:30 a.m. each day in the Town Council Chambers. The meetings will also be live-streamed on the Town's website. Residents are encouraged to participate and share feedback with Council throughout the budget process. Learn More | Building Permits Now Online in The Blue Mountains The Town of The Blue Mountains is excited to announce the launch of its online Cloudpermit system, which will enhance and streamline the process of applying for building permits. As of January 1, 2025, Cloudpermit is available for residents, builders, and members of the business community to apply for and track building permits anywhere, at any time. The introduction of Cloudpermit aims to provide customers with a more transparent and user-friendly experience by improving efficiency, reducing administrative burdens, and facilitating communication between staff and applicants. Learn More | Council Café at the Craigleith Heritage Depot on January 9 Join Council for an open and informal 'meet and greet' between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The public is invited to join Council at the Craigleith Heritage Depot to discuss topics of interest for the community. Coffee, tea and breakfast snacks will be provided. This event is open to all, and pre-registration is not required. There is no formal agenda for the Council Café and attendees may join at any time during the event. The final Council Café will be held on March 28, 2025, at the Marsh Street Centre in Clarksburg. The Town of The Blue Mountains has a lobbyist registry that provides a comprehensive record of interactions between lobbyists and public officials or Town staff. The lobbyist registry went live on November 22, 2024, following approval by Town Council. Enforcement and penalties will come into effect on Monday, May 12, 2025, allowing for a grace period to enable Council, staff and the public training and familiarization with the new process. The registry lists lobbyists' names, affiliations, lobbying objectives, and the Town officials they lobbied. Lobbyists must register within ten days of any interaction with a public official. The Town's website provides more information about the lobbyist registry, including enforcement measures and what qualifies as lobbying. Learn More | Capital Project Highlights Thornbury West Reconstruction Phase 1B Following Council's direction on the final design for Louisa Street, Town staff are looking to move the project forward in 2025 with the reconstruction of Lorne Street, Park Lane, and the remaining sections of Alice Street, Elma Street and Louisa Street. Bay Street East Reconstruction Public Information Centre #2 was held in late December, and provided an opportunity for attendees to review and ask questions about the 60% design. A follow-up Staff Report is expected to be taken to Committee of the Whole and Council in early February of 2025. Thornbury Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion The Town’s contractor has completed construction of the new aeration and secondary clarifier tanks, while also installing new functional components in the pre-existing aeration and clarifier tanks. In the new year, work will continue on installing and upgrading the electrical and plant monitoring systems, along with various pumps and treatment systems. View All Projects | Town Hosting Gateway Signage Meeting on Thursday, January 9 The Town of The Blue Mountains is hosting a virtual Gateway & Wayfinding Signage Concept Design meeting on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. via Microsoft Teams. The meeting will allow participants to share their feedback regarding Gateway and Wayfinding Signage in the Town and provide suggestions or ideas for the new design process. Additionally, a questionnaire is available to the public to provide feedback regarding the project. Learn More | | Craigleith Community Working Group Open House Craigleith residents are invited to attend a community Open House hosted by the Craigleith Community Working Group on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 4 – 6 p.m. The Open House will be held at The Windfall Shed located at 140 Crosswinds Blvd. in the Windfall Subdivision. Craigleith residents include those on or close to Grey Rd 19 to the south, Grey Rd 21 to the east, Georgian Bay to the north and Wards Rd to the west - all are welcome. The Open House is an informal drop-in event and an opportunity for residents to learn about and engage with the Craigleith Community Working Group. The Working Group was established to champion causes in the Craigleith area, and the Open House provides an opportunity to introduce the public to the projects and objectives. The Open House will also feature members of the Blue Mountain Ratepayers Association, representatives from the Blue Mountain Village Association and staff from the Town of The Blue Mountains. | 2025 Digital Parking Passes Now Available As of January 2025, the Town has transitioned to a fully digital parking pass system. Physical hanging parking passes will no longer be issued or accepted in 2025. Residents are required to register for parking passes annually and must re-register their vehicle for 2025. Vehicle registration can be completed through the Town’s website or in person at Town Hall during regular business hours. A grace period for residents to register their vehicle licence plate will be provided until February 3, 2025. Learn More | Important Notice and Updates to the Ontario Building Code 2024 The Province of Ontario has introduced a new Building Code aimed at reducing regulatory barriers in the construction industry, improving building safety and quality, and simplifying the process of building housing. Timing and Transition Provisions The 2024 Building Code came effect on January 1, 2025, with a three-month grace period until March 31, 2025, for certain designs that are already underway. Please make note of the following transition period dates: January 1, 2025, to March 31, 2025 - Permit applications must be submitted using the new 2024 Building Code
