SQUAMISH RCMP DETACHMENT TEMPORARILY CLOSING FOR RENOVATIONS | Front counter improvements will begin next week in an effort to better assist and meet the needs of our growing community. Interim services for ticket payments or police information checks (payments) will be available at Municipal Hall to ensure continuity of services, and the RCMP non-emergency phone lines will continue to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the closure. Improvements will include four kiosks to offer RCMP and Bylaw Enforcement client services. The $155,000 project is being funded by the District of Squamish to enhance public services while minimizing risk to front desk staff. The duration of the closure is anticipated to be approximately five to six weeks. Take the survey | | ZERO WASTE TIP OF THE WEEK | Did you know that the Squamish Landfill is filling up rapidly and will reach its capacity in 2028 if we keep going at this rate as a community? Lots of materials end up in our landfill that could have otherwise been diverted. Food waste is one of the most common materials that end up in garbage totes and contributes to the release of methane over time which contributes to global warming. Let’s all do our part in making waste diversion a priority by putting food scraps and other organic materials in our organic totes. Learn more | Update on the Garibaldi Estates Neighbourhood Planning Process District staff provided an update to Squamish Council on Tuesday on the Garibaldi Estates Neighbourhood Planning Process including the process to date, background information about where we are at, and how we got here and proposed next steps. The Neighbourhood Plan will pave the way for the introduction of multiple neighbourhood scenarios for the public to review and comment on this spring. The possible future neighbourhood scenarios will be presented to the community in the coming months for review and input. There will be in-person and online opportunities to review, discuss, and ask questions about all possible neighbourhood scenarios. Watch the presentation | Notice of emergency work and noise - Downtown Squamish The District of Squamish Utilities Department will be completing an emergency sanitary sewer repair this weekend from approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday, January 14 through Sunday morning, January 15. District crews will be pumping and hauling overnight due to low diurnal sanitary flows that occur in this time period. Residents at the west end of Main Street will experience elevated noise levels related to the work. It is suggested that light sleepers consider noise-reduction devices (earplugs, white noise machines etc.). Thank you for your patience and understanding while this important emergency work is being completed. | | Latest additions for Development Review: Requests for a public meeting must be made within the first 21 calendar days of a project’s launch in the Development Review.
