Emotion coaching  - May 12, 2022, 8:00 - 10:00pm 

This workshop looks at 4 different parenting styles and ways we can support young children to understand and express their emotions (frustration, sadness, fear, excitement, tantrums, anger). Enrollment is limited.

Discuss some reasons why children don’t do as they’re told. Develop a personal parenting plan to help deal with disobedience. Enrollment is limited.

Kids Have Stress Too! - May 26, 2022, 8:00 - 10:00pm

This program helps parents; caregivers understand childhood stress and how to provide children with the tools to deal with stress effectively. It  provides parents, caregivers, and communities with the knowledge, awareness and skills to help young people become  more resilient through learning how to manage their stress.Enrollment is limited.

Program leaders are excited to share an adventure with you that will include fun activities, all taking place during the fall season. Bundle up, as your family does not want to miss out!

Play Rangers focuses on children and family participation, with planned special outdoor recreational activities that can be enjoyed by all. Children 6-12 years old are welcome to attend on their own. Starting location will always be the shack at the park and some activities may venture into the community.

Play Rangers will run on noon-6pm Saturdays, from April 2 - May 21 at a variety of District Park locations.

Financial Information

Childcare subsidy

 

Eligible families can apply for child care subsidies if they have children age 0 to Grade 6 enrolled in a:

  • licensed facility-based program (daycare, out-of-school care and preschool)
  • family day home program overseen by a licensed family day home agency
  • group family child care centre

Subsidy rates vary based on the child’s age, family income, the child care program and the number of hours a child attends each month. Types of subsidy include:

  • subsidy for children 0 to kindergarten-age (in kindergarten and also attending child care during regular school hours)
  • subsidy for children in kindergarten to grade 6 enrolled in a licensed program outside of regular school hours
  • preschool subsidy for children enrolled in a licensed preschool program
  • extended hours subsidy for children who require care outside regular hours

If you are interested in full-time or flexible part-time work for the summer and beyond, join us on Thursday, May 5 from 10:00am to 11:00am to learn about these rewarding positions and how to become part of the team. You will have the chance to meet the YMCA recruitment team, learn about the application process, open positions, and to ask questions.

Many of the training courses needed for these roles are provided by the YMCA. Courses such as: NCCP, FMS Training & High Five Sport Certification and WHMIS. All successful applicants will need to provide a Child Welfare & Police Security Clearance.

Hello! My name is...

Tricia Boonstra, Community Social Worker with the City of Edmonton, assigned to Callingwood North & South, Ormsby Place, and Lymburn neighbourhoods. 

Community Social Workers are connectors and conveners, located in specific neighbourhoods and recreation centres. We collaborate with organizations and Edmontonians, to identify, plan and implement community-led solutions to community challenges.

By working alongside individuals, schools, organizations, businesses, and faith, grassroots, cultural and other groups, together we find innovative approaches to complex issues like social inclusion and poverty reduction.
