HELLO!

Hello long-term care staff and physicians!

Interested in what the LTCI has been up to? We’ve been busy shifting and reorienting to try and best support you during these tumultuous times. Read an update of the LTCI COVID response here

SUTURE KITS A SUCESS

As part of the LTCI COVID response, and in an effort to reduce Emergency Department visits, the LTCI provided fifteen Victoria and South Island long-term care homes with fifteen suture kits to ensure physicians would have the supplies needed on-site for suturing minor lacerations. In June 2020, the LTCI team checked-in with the care homes to ask whether the kits had been used, and all of them responded (thank you). Positive news - over the two month period, seven care homes had used the suture kits on nine occasions, and eight Emergency Department transfers were prevented! THE LTCI LEARNING SERIES NEEDS YOU

The LTCI is looking to reimagine our popular learning series events within the new environmental context that COVID-19 presents. We’re actively seeking physicians and long-term care staff to provide strategic direction, help choose topics that would work well in a virtual medium, and connect with potential presenters. Please get in touch if you’re interested in becoming a LTCI learning series leader or have an exciting topic you’d like to see in a virtual learning series format! (Photo credit Trevor Ball)
