THE NETWORK OF LOCAL ASSOCIATIONS IN QUEBEC

Did you know that a network of local associations exists in Quebec?

These local associations bring together pilots who share their passion for aviation. They organize aerial meetings throughout the province, Youth in Flight events, fundraisers for local organizations. These events make it possible to raise the profile of aviation and to demystify it in their community.

There is also the social background that these organizations sponsor and which give the opportunity to its members, their spouses, their friends to share and fraternize. All in a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere.

Aviateurs.Québec is proud to contribute to the success of these local associations, among others with the training and updating of knowledge program . This program is made available to local associations for the benefit of its members.

Click on the image to find the local association closest to you. If you are not already a member, we invite you to contact them and join them. We will all be stronger.

OCTOBER 21 - CENTRAL OPERATION IN GATINEAU

October 21, 2018 was a fundraiser for Centraide Outaouais. The event was organized by the Association des gens de l'aviation de Gatineau.

Nice and good day despite difficult flying conditions with north-west crosswinds of 12-15 kts with gusts sometimes up to 22 kts and local snow showers at the beginning of the day in one area of our course. For safety, we stopped our flights about 30 minutes in the morning to let the snow flurries pass.

For this occasion 6 pilots with 5 planes made 38 flights carrying 105 happy passengers, some of whom had a full smile. We warmly thank all the volunteers who gave their time for the success of this event. A special thank you to the signalers who steered the aircraft on the ramp, to the Gatineau FSS specialists for their expertise and invaluable cooperation, and to the Gatineau / Ottawa Executive Airport staff for their support. To allow parents to fly, a childcare service for young children was provided by Louise Caron-Dufresne and Nicole Filiatrault.

Many were disappointed that they could not fly in a helicopter (Normand Benny's R44 was damaged in a hard landing in September and was no longer available) so we'll see if we can put that back in the program next year. We had about 30 volunteers to help with the task including the vintage Wings Signalers. The first flights started around 09:30 and the last flight was around 15:00. Our day ended with a group debriefing and a chicken dinner courtesy of Benny & Co. As the weather may be uncertain in October, next year we expect to move the event forward for the second half of September if it does not. does not conflict with the air show at CYND.

Thanks to TD's sponsorship for our essence , our final result surpasses last year's over $ 600.

We are giving Centraide a total amount of almost $ 4,500.

FLIGHT PLANNING IN WINTER

Here are some things to check before you fly. This should help you ensure safe and trouble-free flying during the cold season.

A few hours before your flight, watch carefully the weather forecast for aviation. Focus on fronts, forecasts, icing and upper winds.

Photo: Jean-Pierre Bonin

  • Watch the winds. Winter brings high winds, both at altitude and on the surface.
  • Make sure you have enough fuel to fight against this headwind and sufficient margins to land safely with gusty winds. In winter, increase fuel reserves.
  • In the event that your aircraft is parked outside, preheat your engine, especially if temperatures fall below -20 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • If you plan an instrument flight (IFR), make sure all altitudes are free of ice and ice.
  • Make sure you know the area of your destination, not just the airport. Are there mountains? Some lakes? Is the ice thick enough to accommodate an aircraft in an emergency?
  • If you are on a VFR, always file a flight itinerary and / or flight plan for any flight over 25mm outside your departure airport.
  • Isolate your aircraft interior, if you can, it will be more comfortable for you and your passengers if there is any.
  • Dress warmly. Do not forget your gloves, a good hat, scarf, and good sunglasses.
  • Do not forget your cell phone and your GPS ... In winter we can not afford to wait another hour or two.
  • Make sure you have a small kit on board including candles, a blanket, and some treats like chocolate.
  • If you need to clean your plane of snow or ice, arrive early to get the job done. Remember, all surfaces must be clean and smooth. Attention no ice must be tolerated on surfaces.

Hoping that this small checklist will contribute to the most enjoyable winter flights.
