Today, I am pleased to share with you some good news in this regard. Every year, Aéro Montréal organizes a key event for the industry: the Aéro Montréal Golf or Cycling Classic. I am pleased to announce that we will be holding another edition of this event on Monday, August 30, 2021, at the prestigious Elm Ridge Country Club on Île Bizard.

The latest news about the Québec aerospace industry. | | | Aéro Montréal a new member of the Consortium SAF+ Along with Air Transat, Aéroports de Montréal, Hydro-Québec and the École Polytechnique, Aéro Montréal is joining SAF+, a group of Québec companies working in the field of sustainable fuel production from carbon capture using green hydrogen produced in Québec. Aiming to produce sustainable fuel for the aviation sector starting in 2021, the development of the SAF+ project, located in the east end of Montréal, consists of recovering the CO2 emissions emitted by industry and transforming them into a clean synthetic fuel with a carbon footprint 80% smaller than traditional aviation fuel. One of SAF+’s goals is to make Montréal a hub for responsible aviation in Canada. MORE | | | | Bombardier Specialized Aircraft confirms agreement with the United States Air Force for up to six additional special mission-configured Global aircraft Bombardier has confirmed an agreement between its Learjet Inc. subsidiary and the U.S. Air Force (USAF) in support of the Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN) program. The Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract provides the USAF with flexible ordering and includes an immediate firm order for one Global 6000 aircraft, with as many as five additional Global 6000 aircraft. The contract, which includes engineering and modification work, represents a potential total value of close to $465 million U.S. MORE | | | | | Participate in the Green-SEAM survey The Green-SEAM Strategic Network is dedicated to the development and deployment of sustainable, innovative and globally competitive surface engineering solutions. The Network, funded by NSERC and its industrial partners, has achieved considerable success in developing a community of researchers and engineers from universities, government laboratories and industry across Canada. With its five-year funding ending in 2022, the Network is currently preparing a technology roadmap for the coming years. Just over a year after STELIA Aerospace took over the A220 activities in Saint-Laurent, a dedicated building has been built on the Mirabel site and the transfer of the Saint-Laurent activities is well underway. About 100 people are already working on the A220 at the Mirabel site, in this brand new 16,100 m² building. And the very first A220 nose fuselage completed by STELIA Aerospace at Mirabel has been delivered to the Airbus Canada final assembly line on schedule. Stay abreast of the major succession and workforce challenges in aerospace. | Learn about the Permanent immigration pilot program for artificial intelligence, information technology and visual effects workers The Québec government recently launched a pilot program that will allow workers in the artificial intelligence and information technology fields to settle in Québec on a permanent basis. This program will select 550 people per year – 275 Québec graduates or temporary workers in the artificial intelligence sector, and 275 foreign workers in the information technology and visual effects sector. The pilot program came into effect on April 22, 2021 and will end on January 1, 2026. MORE | Are you a manufacturing company affected by the labour scarcity? SURVEY | | Aéro Montréal is supporting companies in getting their talent back to work | Some employers are working on a post-pandemic return-to-work plan, but most are not. Tania Saba, a professor at the University of Montréal’s School of Industrial Relations, invites you to take advantage of this transition period to reflect on the issue by participating in a study she is currently conducting on the subject. This study is a follow-up to a first study she led which revealed that a majority of people appreciate telework to the point of wanting to continue working from home after the pandemic. Preliminary results from the second study, in which 6,000 people have taken part so far, confirm the popularity of teleworking: two out of three respondents (66%) now want to continue working remotely, compared to 51% last September.
However, while they are open to working in a hybrid way, respondents want the organization of work to be planned. “They would prefer to have a framework rather than not knowing when they can work at home or in the office,” Ms. Saba explains. “Given the popularity of working from home, teleworking will also become a competitive challenge in attracting and retaining staff.” See the results of the first study. Norton Rose Fulbright | Post-pandemic: Telework challenges and the need for a policy framework Following the COVID-19 pandemic, telework was not only encouraged but made mandatory for a large proportion of the Québec population. The many surveys conducted since then, including the latest ones, lead to the following conclusion: the majority of Quebecers would like to work at home more often in the future. Telework is here to stay and Québec employers must provide a framework to protect themselves from the pitfalls and headaches it can sometimes represent. Moreover, it is a safe bet that in order to retain its workforce and be attractive in the context of the Québec labour market, Québec employers will have to embrace this new reality of telework at some point. Here is a review of the various challenges raised by the sudden advent of telework in Québec, as well as an overview of best practices in this area.
