Raccoon Rabies Surveillance and Control Operation

Since the beginning of the year, more than 10 raccoons infected with rabies have been found in the Eastern Townships.

The ministère de l'Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs is asking the public to report dead raccoons, skunks and foxes, or those that appear disoriented, injured, abnormally aggressive or paralyzed.

You can do so by calling 𝟭-𝟴𝟳𝟳-𝟯𝟰𝟲-𝟲𝟳𝟲𝟯, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or by filling out the online form.

Rabies is a deadly disease for both humans and wild and domestic animals.

Our Firefighters in Training

In April, Lac-Brome’s firefighters sharpened their skills by practicing with fire extinguishers of various types and sizes.

Keep in mind that fire extinguishers are most effective at putting out small, early-stage fires. That’s why it’s important to know where your extinguisher is and how to use it before an emergency happens.

For more information on home fire extinguisher safety, click here.

A big thank you to our friends at Extincteurs Milton for generously providing the equipment for this training session.

Starting mid-May, it will be possible to submit your applications for boat stickers. We would like to remind you that it is mandatory to have a sticker or a washing certificate to sail on Brome Lake, for all types of boats.

Good news, the stickers will be FREE for Brome Lake residents.

You will be able to apply online via the citizen portal (please be patient, it is not possible to submit your application yet!). Stay tuned for details on how to obtain them.

Also, by early June, a new boat washing station will be installed at 698 Lakeside Road, near the tourist information office. It will be self-service, open 7 days a week!

We would remind you that all pleasure boaters on other bodies of water, whether residents or not, MUST clean their boats before launching them on Brome Lake.

The fee for washing a motorized boat will be $20, and it will be free for non-motorized boats.

When applying for a sticker, residents can request an access card to the washing station to use it for free.

Stay tuned to our various communication tools!

The Rain Garden Grant Returns in 2025

Did you know that rain gardens are recognized as a way of allowing rainwater to infiltrate into the ground while also creating biodiversity?

In 2024, six gardens were created by citizens.

Good news, the rain garden grant is back. The Town reimburses 50% of the costs, up to $1000, for the installation of a rain garden on residential properties.

For more information on how the program works, please visit our website.

Contact our environmental advisor, Anaïs Renaud, with any questions or to register for the program.

We also invite you to go to Douglass Beach to visit the rain garden created by the Town!

A Full Bin... But Well Sorted!

Here are a few tips and tricks to properly dispose of your materials in the recycling bin.

  • Empty and lightly rinse your containers.
  • Separate the recyclable materials in the same container or packaging. For example, remove the bag from a box of cereal and fold the box.
  • Small caps should remain on their original container to avoid falling through the cracks.
  • Make aluminum foil balls.

For further information, you can visit the Bin Impact.
