Committee Openings | Deadline for Board Nominations

Openings on COBC's committees

Committee members are Licensed Opticians or members of the public who are passionate about the opticianry profession and ensuring safe and effective vision care for the public. Committees are integral to the work of COBC.

We have positions opening on both our Inquiry Committee and our Registration Committee! All registrants are welcome to apply. For all Board and Committee positions, we are especially encouraging applications from Indigenous people, members of racialized or marginalized groups, individuals identifying as LGBTQIA2S+, and individuals with a lived experience of immigrating to Canada as an optical professional.

The deadline to apply is Friday, September 17.

Is your CCP cycle ending soon?

If you are currently in the third and final year of your continuing education cycle, you must fulfill all the requirements of your Continuing Competency Program (CCP) no later than December 31, 2021.

This program is self-managed, so you are responsible for ensuring that all steps have been completed in the online system.

This includes: taking the assessment(s), creating goals for yourself, finding and completing activities to achieve those goals, and reflecting on how it went.

Please log in to your profile on the COBC website to log your progress. If you have questions about CCP, you can visit our website to access guides and tools or contact Christopher Dodge, our Manager of Quality Assurance.

OAC Connect Summit

The Opticians Association of Canada is hosting its largest event of the year over two days this fall (Sunday, September 19 and Sunday, October 3). The event is free for OAC members and students, and is open to non-members for a fee. The schedule includes a wide variety of speakers and topics.

Take a look at the line-up of speakers and consider how attending the Connect Summit might contribute to your CCP learning goals!

Thank you for participating in the Standards of Practice survey!

COBC is grateful to registrants and stakeholders who took the time to complete the survey about the draft of our new Standards of Practice over the last month! We will work to incorporate all the feedback we have received.

We're looking forward to sharing the updated Standards with you! Please watch your inbox for details about upcoming information sessions and the launch of the new Standards.

WorkSafeBC soon to accept digital signatures

As of September 2021, WorkSafeBC will accept digital signatures from injured workers to authorize the release of relevant medical records from their treatment providers.

The organization doesn’t anticipate this new service option will generate additional work for treatment providers. It’s designed to make it easier for workers to provide authorization to WorkSafeBC, reduce administrative and mailing delays, and enable the organization to request records from practitioners earlier.

Did you know?

If you produce an assessment record from a refraction or a contact lens fitting, you are required to release the record to the patient, even if they don't request it.
