Updates

Epidemiological

  • Hastings and Prince Edward Counties have 958 cumulative lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 72 active, 877 resolved and 9 deceased. There were 15 new cases reported today.
    • There is no local long-term care facility experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak; additional outbreak details can be found online.

  • VOCs: 334
  • Vaccines administered to date:  61,636
  • Fully vaccinated individuals to date:  4,098
  • Ontario is reporting 2,791 cases and 25 new deaths as 33,700 tests are completed. There are 931 new cases in Toronto, 653 in Peel, 275 in York Region, and 147 in Durham.

  • In Canada, as at May 3, 2021, there are 1,243,242 total cases of COVID-19 with 83,544 active cases and 1,135,356 recovered. To date, there have been 24,342 COVID-19 related deaths and more than 31,897,888 individuals tested.

Provincial

Ontario unveils $2 Billion plan to keep schools safe and support learning recovery and renewal

 

  • The Ontario government is providing more than $2 billion in new supports to advance and protect public education for the 2021-22 school year. The support includes more than $1.6 billion in resources to respond to COVID-19 and an $85.5 million commitment to support learning recovery and renewal in response to the ongoing pandemic.
  • It also includes a $561 million increase to this year’s Grants for Student Needs, bringing the 2021-22 total GSN investment to $25.6 billion.

Ontario expands COVID-19 Vaccination Booking for more people

  • Beginning Thursday, May 6, 2021, at 8:00 a.m. the following groups throughout the province will be eligible to book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment, through the provincial online booking system and call centre or directly through public health units that use their own booking system:
    • Individuals turning 50 and over in 2021;
    • Individuals with high-risk health conditions;
    • People who cannot work from home who fall under Group One (including remaining elementary and secondary school workers); and
    • First Nations, Inuit and Métis individuals in addition to the other channels previously available to book their appointment.

Ontario Provincial Booking System for COVID-19 Vaccines Information:

  • Individuals who will be turning 50 or older (effective May 6) and wish to make an appointment — or an individual trusted to make an appointment on their behalf — can visit Ontario.ca/bookvaccine.
  • For individuals who do not have internet access, they can call the Provincial Booking Line at
    1-833-943-3900, open Monday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • When booking an appointment, individuals will be asked for information from their green Ontario health card, birth date, postal code and email address and/or phone number. At the time of booking, eligible individuals will schedule their first and second vaccination appointments.
  • Individuals who still have a red and white health card, or who require assistance with booking, can call the Provincial Vaccine Information Line number at 1-888-999-6488.
