Pool Closure Update

On March 3, we shared an update on the pool deck status and related closure. For the latest updates, please continue to visit our Pool Closure FAQ at squamish.ca/pool.

We thank the community for your ongoing patience while we work to resolve these issues.

Please be assured that re-opening the pool as quickly and safely as possible to get back to serving the community with this important recreational asset is our top priority.

Corridor Lighting Project Update

The Corridor Trail Extension project is now complete. This upgrade includes new LED lighting fixtures, a widened asphalt trail for pedestrians and cyclists, and an improved connection through Rose Park to the Corridor Trail on Loggers Lane.

Funded through BikeBC, this cycling infrastructure project now serves as an important commuter link for residents travelling through the area.

International Womens Day 2025

March 8 is International Women's Day, a day to celebrate the achievements of women around the globe. This year's theme, Strength in Every Story, highlights the importance of amplifying the voices of all women, particularly those who continue to face barriers to success.

We also want to give a special shoutout to the inspiring women in our community and the incredible team here at the District of Squamish. Thank you for everything you do to make Squamish the amazing place it is today!

Updates to DCC and ACC Bylaw

Updates to the Development Cost Charges (DCC) Bylaw and an introduction of a new Amenity Cost Charge (ACC) Bylaw are expected to be presented to Council for first three readings on Tuesday, March 18.

Updates to the DCC bylaw are considered every few years to allow the District to collect revenue that keeps pace with the increasing costs of infrastructure required to service community growth. A new ACC Bylaw will be a growth-related capital financing tool for amenities which cannot be recovered through DCCs. This tool is provided as an alternative to Community Amenity Contributions which have previously been provided by developers through the rezoning negotiation process.

Learn more about DCCs and ACCs and view the draft bylaws at squamish.ca/dcc-acc-2025.

The community is invited to provide any feedback and comments on the draft bylaws before March 18 by emailing planning@squamish.ca

Updates to Zoning Bylaw

Updates to the Zoning Bylaw relating to properties in flood hazard areas was adopted by Council on Tuesday, February 18 at the Regular Meeting of the Council. Key changes below:

  • Properties in flood hazard areas that were previously zoned R-1, RS-1, RS-2, RS-3, and RMH-2 have been rezoned to either, R-2, R-3, R-4, R-5, or AGRI-4.
  • The allowed number of units, lot coverage, and setbacks have been updated determined by flood hazard assessments.
  • These changes align with recent changes to the Zoning Bylaw following the Province's Bill 44 legislation and the Squamish Housing Action Plan.

To learn more about the zoning updates including maps of the affected properties, please visit squamish.ca/residential-zoning-changes.

Mount Garibaldi Cemetery expansion project

The Mount Garibaldi Cemetery is nearing capacity and requires expansion to continue serving the community. This project began  on March 3, with forest and vegetation clearing, followed by construction expected from July to December 2025.

During the project, some minor impacts are expected. Cemetery access will be reduced, and there will be temporary cremation delays until March 17. Nearby residents and visitors may experience noise from chainsaws, tree felling, and trucking, as well as increased truck traffic on Government Road. Additionally, the adjacent trail to the east will be temporarily closed, with signage posted to indicate the closure.

Daylight Savings Time

Friendly reminder: Daylight Saving Time begins on March 9!

It’s not just time to change your clocks, it’s also the perfect time to check the batteries in your smoke alarms. Start by pressing the test button to ensure your smoke alarm is working and not expired. Smoke alarms should be installed on every level of your home.

Additionally, take this opportunity to review your fire escape plan so everyone in your household knows what to do when the alarm sounds. For more fire safety tips, visit squamish.ca/firesafety.
