HELP HIGHLANDS BEAR FAMILY MOVE ON

The Conservation Officer Service has received multiple reports of a sow and three yearlings accessing attractants in the Garibaldi Highlands neighbourhood, particularly around Paisley Place, Rhum and Eigg Drive, Portree Way, Perth Drive and Thunderbird Ridge.

Three of the four bears are tagged and believed to be the same family unit previously relocated due to similar appearance and behaviour.

Our best and only course of action is to eliminate attractants and discourage them from staying in our neighbourhoods.

WHAT RESIDENTS NEED TO DO

We are asking all Squamish residents to please take a moment to remove the potential for bears to access any of the following:

  • Fruit trees (reports indicate that residents' fruit trees may be the prime culprit for the bears' presence)
  • Garbage
  • Compost/Organics
  • Vegetable gardens
  • Pet food
  • Bird food
  • Barbecues/Smokers
  • Fire pits

Keeping wildlife attractants under control is what will give these bears a chance to return to their natural environment and feed on natural food.

Please share this with your neighbours and friends and continue to report wildlife sightings and encounters to the 24/7 COS hotline at
