SHA CARES - Living our Values

Northwest Community Lodge in Meadow Lake has officially opened its Adult Day Program, providing a welcoming environment where adults can take part in meaningful activities, build social connections and receive support.

🌐 View full CARES story

Every day, Saskatchewan Health Authority Neonatal Intensive Care Unit teams provide specialized care and support to some of the province’s smallest patients and their families. The NICU teams ensure every baby gets the best possible opportunity for a healthy outcome.

For one family, that care made all the difference.

Aniya was born at just 27 weeks and two days, weighing only two pounds, three ounces. During her 75-day stay in the NICU, her parents celebrated every milestone, no matter how small.

Recruitment Responsibilities Transitioning to SHRA

The Saskatchewan Healthcare Recruitment Agency (SHRA) is assuming responsibility for attraction and sourcing activities for selected health-care professions as part of the province's Patients First Health Care Plan.

Beginning September 28, 2026, the Saskatchewan Healthcare Recruitment Agency leads physician recruitment activities. Recruitment responsibilities for identified hard-to-recruit professions will transition gradually throughout fall and winter 2026. Over time, the Agency will also play a greater role in Indigenous recruitment activities.

SHA will continue to be responsible for physician leadership recruitment, workforce planning, interviewing, hiring, onboarding and retention activities. Recruitment and hiring support for leaders will continue through existing SHA processes and contacts.

SHA team members should continue to connect with SHA Practitioner Staff Affairs on physician recruitment needs and with SHA Human Resources or First Nations and Métis Health on non-physician recruitment needs. Practitioner Staff Affairs, Human Resources, and First Nations and Métis Health will then co-ordinate recruitment activities with the Saskatchewan Healthcare Recruitment Agency.

This coordinated provincial approach is intended to strengthen Saskatchewan's ability to attract health-care professionals and support safe, high-quality patient care across the province.

Staff engagement sessions - Saskatoon City Hospital Acute Care Expansion Project

The following staff engagement sessions will be held at each Saskatoon hospital in October, giving staff an opportunity to learn more and ask questions about this project and the other acute care expansion projects throughout the city of Saskatoon:

📅 Monday, October 5, 2026
🕑 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
📍 Auditorium, St. Paul’s Hospital

📅 Monday, October 19, 2026
🕑 12 to 1 p.m.
📍 Asher Auditorium, Saskatoon City Hospital

📅 Monday, October 26, 2026
🕑 12 to 1 p.m.
📍 Mall Theatre, Royal University Hospital

Code of the Month: Code Brown

October’s Code of the Month focuses on Code Brown: Chemical Spill/Hazardous Material. While some minor spills can be cleaned up safely by trained staff using the appropriate equipment and procedures, larger or more hazardous incidents require a coordinated emergency response. Being familiar with your department's procedures, the location of spill kits, and how to access Safety Data Sheets helps protect staff, patients, visitors, and the environment. Preparedness starts long before an emergencyoccurs.

Review the October Code of the Month poster for additional details.

If you have any questions, please contact the Health Emergency Management (HEM) team at SHA.HEM@saskhealthauthority.ca

Staff Safety Talk - Climbing on Borrowed Time - Ladder Safety

Your ladder won't tell you when it's time to replace it, but it may show signs. Ladders don't come with an expiration date, but wear and tear, environmental exposure, and damage can make them unsafe. Before climbing, take a moment to inspect your ladder to ensure it is safe to use.

Read our Safety Talk for practical tips on what to inspect on your ladder.
