New artificial turf fields at Harewood Centennial Park

On Saturday, April 20, two new artificial turf fields at Harewood Centennial Park were declared open and ready for play. These multi-use fields will see plenty of action as soccer, field lacrosse, football and minor baseball teams practice and play during the day and into the evenings beneath the lights.

Some highlights of the new fields include LED field lighting, paved walkways, covered benches, a media/coaching booth (summer 2024), and bleachers with 400 seats for family, friends and fans. New parking is accessible from Howard Avenue as well as soon-to-be-complete parking along Seventh Street (summer 2024).

The new artificial turf fields are rated for up to 3000 hours of play per year and rain or shine, are ready for play. These two fields are the 4th and 5th artificial turf fields in Nanaimo.

Are you ready for this year’s fire season? We're here to help make sure you’re prepared when and where it counts.

Wildfire is a risk that all British Columbians need to be prepared for. But while that seems like a big task, FireSmartTM is here to help you get started and make proven steps toward protecting your home and your community from wildfire.

Clean BC Rebate

Thinking of making your house more climate friendly? Consider getting an energy audit done and installing a heat pump! Did you know Clean BC Better Homes Rebate Program is available and to help support this effort, the City of Nanaimo also provides top-up funding?

Watering Restrictions

Until further notice, even-numbered addresses can water on even-numbered days and odd-numbered addresses on odd-numbered days for up to 2 hours between 7 am to 10 am or 7 pm to 10 pm. Veggie gardens and fruit trees can be watered any time.

To view the current Water Restriction Stage for Nanaimo, and how you can conserve water, see www.nanaimo.ca/city-services/water-sewage/watering-restrictions.

Tree voucher program

Did You Know? If you are a registered property owner in the City of Nanaimo, you can participate in our tree voucher program. This means you can purchase a tree to plant on your property for a reduced cost of $25 each.

The City of Nanaimo works with volunteer groups to restore some of our more vulnerable ecosystems all over the City. If you'd like to be a volunteer weed warrior, litter picker or tree planter – we could use your help.
