This week’s educator resources, A Rainbow of Understanding, is a curated selection to enhance understanding on diversity, equity, inclusion, and the mental health experiences of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. These resources are designed to support empathy, encourage meaningful dialogue, and provide practical strategies to create an inclusive learning environment.

Educator Resources:

  1. Provided through a collaboration between the Calgary Mental Health Association, YouthSmart, and Equipped, Mental Health Matters: A 2SLGBTQ+ Workbook (primarily designed for ages 16 to 24) offers valuable insights into the unique mental health experiences faced by members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community. The workbook also provides practical strategies to support positive mental well-being and resilience.

  2. Provided by Harmony Movement, Voices of Canadian Youth Curriculum Resource is a free, downloadable collection of lesson plans designed for Grades 5-10. These lessons focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, exploring various aspects of identity such as gender, religion, race, ability, mental health, and 2SLGBTQ+ topics.

  3. Transgender individuals are often misunderstood, but Jackson Bird offers a humorous and honest perspective to clear up misconceptions about pronouns, transitioning, and more. In this engaging TED Talk, How to Talk (and Listen) to Transgender People, Jackson provides insights to help people feel more comfortable asking questions and understanding trans issues.
