Come Use Our New Sound-Proof Booth!

Need a quiet space for a meeting, to study or work? This two-person soundproof booth is available to be booked in person or by phone on the day of use. If you’d like to use the Pod, please check in with staff at the front desk.

The Pod has a dimmable light, adjustable fan and is equipped with 120V, USB, and USB-C outlets.

Here are the rules for using the Pod:

  • Available to use for a maximum of 2 hours per day.
  • Check in with staff at the front desk before using.
  • Please inform staff when you leave.
  • No more than 2 people allowed in the Pod.
  • No food in the Pod; drinks with lids are permitted.
  • Remove all belongings and garbage when you leave.
  • If no one is waiting you may continue use beyond 2 hours; however, you must vacate within 5 minutes when someone else requests to book.

Return Your Drink Bottles For Us!

March 28-April 8

A keen and dedicated team of volunteers will be sorting refundable drink containers in support of the Library at the recycling depot from March 28-April 8.

Please consider saving your wine, beer, and other refundable containers to recycle at BIRD during this time, as the funds raised will go toward the Bowen Island Library.

Join Carol Cram, Bowen Island local and co-author of The Many Faces of MAID: What to Expect When Someone You Know Chooses Medical Assistance in Dying, as she talks about compiling the stories of 17 people, including herself, who supported a loved one through MAID. Reverend Lorraine Ashdown will join Carol to offer her perspective.

1 pm: Film: Small Town Pride

Join us for a showing of this Canadian documentary, an intimate look at the joys and challenges of being queer in a small town, following LGBTQ2S+ people and allies as they prepare for their local Pride celebrations. Co-written and directed by Bowen-born and raised Riley Sparks!

2 pm: Discussion led by Leah Gregg

Bowen Island local, Leah Gregg, will lead a conversation on “What can Bowen Island do to better support our LGBTQ2S+ community?” and “What could a community Pride event look like on Bowen Island?”

Come for the film (1 pm-2 pm) and/or the discussion afterward—whatever works for you.

Members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, their families, friends, allies, and all interested community members are encouraged to share thoughts and listen to others’ after the film.

Want to Put on a Pride Event on Bowen Island?

If you’re interested in seeing all-ages Pride events happen on Bowen, or want to be involved in their creation, this is a great opportunity to meet others who want the same. You’ll also meet members of the Literacy Task Group, a group of local non-profits interested in supporting Pride events for Bowen. They will be present to hear your visions for Pride on Bowen, and share information about funding that is available.

Movie Night: Rockfield

Join us for a screening of Rockfield (2020), a documentary about Rockfield Studios, a farm and live-in recording studio in Wales, where some of the greatest bands and musicians of our time have recorded some of their biggest hit records. Musicians include Ozzy Osbourne, Robert Plant, Tony Iommi, Dave Brock, David Bowie, Jim Kerr, Kingsley Ward, Charles Ward, Ann Ward, Lisa Ward; bands include Black Sabbath, Queen, Stone Roses, Oasis, and Coldplay.

Directed by Hannah Berryman. In English. Rated 14A.

Drop in, no registration required. Come a little early and grab a comfy chair—film starts promptly at 6 pm, and runs 90 minutes.
