2025 Ontario Election Questionnaires

With less than two days to the close of polls in the 2025 Ontario election, we have received two responses to our questionnaire.

20250221 Green Party Response

20250223 NDP Response

There's still time for the other parties to respond and have them posted online for the public to review. Visit the Ontario questionnaire main page and select the party to give them some encouragement or thanks for responding.

We'll review all responses in an upcoming Access and Privacy Online podcast episode.

Why are we doing this?

2025 sees elections across Canada with the following in the calendar:

  • Ongoing Provincial Elections:
    • Ontario – Thursday, February 27, 2025.
  • The following provincial and territorial elections are to be called on or before in:
    • Newfoundland and Labrador: Tuesday, October 14th, 2025
    • Nunavut: Monday, October 27th, 2025
    • Yukon: Monday, November 3rd, 2025
  • Federal Election:
    • Monday, October 20th, 2025 (or sooner)

Cultures of secrecy, efforts to evade accountability, and a general lack of transparency all erode trust in incumbent governments and public institutions. That said, politicians and candidates know privacy, information management, and government transparency don’t often take center stage (if any) in political campaigns.

That’s where we come in to remind them that the public has strong expectations about these issues.

Want to learn where the parties stand on access and privacy issues? You can help.

FIPA is sending questionnaries to the political parties who had elected members in the prior legislature and candidates in the current election. We’re giving them a deadline to respond and will post those responses once received.

Each election will have its own page where you can find the questions we've asked and the responses we were provided. The political party names will also act as an email link to each party.

They sometimes need some prompting to respond, so feel free to click the email link to give them some encouragement. Of course, we encourage anyone to raise these questions with the parties or with your local candidates in your electoral district.

The Ontario page is live with the questions sent to the central parties.

As the year unfolds, we'll send out periodic updates and you can check back any time to see the questions and responses in 2025 from Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nunavut, Yukon, as well as the federal election.

Be sure to forward this message on to people who may be interested.
