September Safety & Enforcement Focus

Each month, our Community Peace Officers focus on key areas to support safety and well-being in Crowsnest Pass. Here’s what they’re keeping an eye on this month:

Back to School Safety It’s almost that time again! September’s Alberta Traffic Safety focus is “Back to school.” Expect more kids walking and biking. About 1,000 child pedestrians are injured in Canada each year, so please slow down, watch crosswalks, and stop for school buses.

Alcohol and Drug ImpairmentImpaired driving remains a leading cause of road deaths: studies estimate between one-third and one-half of motor-vehicle fatalities involve alcohol and/or drugs, and police lay about nine impaired-driving charges or short-term suspensions every hour in Canada. Drug-impaired driving is now as common as alcohol-impaired. Plan a sober ride, every time.

Speed Speed is a key September focus: in Alberta, 24% of fatal collisions in 2021 involved drivers going too fast for conditions. At 30 km/h, nine in ten people survive a crash; at 50 km/h, fewer than two in ten do—please slow down, especially in school and playground zones.

RV ParkingSeasonal RV Parking Reminder: Please move RVs off municipal streets by October 1. Under the Traffic Bylaw, RVs cannot be parked on any street from October 1 to April 30. Between May 1 and September 30, on-street RV parking is only allowed immediately beside your residence and must not create a hazard; detached trailers are not permitted on streets at any time. Fines for improper RV parking/storage start at $250. Thank you for helping keep roads clear for snow and emergency access.

PEAKS TO PINES RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION & CROWSNEST CRUISERS

PEAKS TO PINES RESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATION

Please check out our website at www.p2pra.ca! You’ll find photos of the greenhouse, volunteer opportunities, an ‘In Memory’ page, a list of donors, and much more!

We are in need of volunteers for our recycling program. With the number of volunteers we have, you would take recycling to the bottle depot for 2 months of the year. If you can help us out, please contact Judy @ 403.892.6283 for more information.

We are a registered charity and issue tax receipts for donations of $25 or more. Name plates are mounted on a Wall of Thanks in the lobby of Peaks to Pines Seniors Lodge for donations of $100 or more. Logos of donors may be placed on the Crowsnest Cruisers van for donations of $5,000 or more to that service. Donors are also recognized on social media. We accept donations by cheque, cash, or e-transfer to peakstopinesresidents@gmail.com.

CROWSNEST CRUISERS

The Cruisers provides assisted transportation for older adults (50+) and persons with mobility challenges locally throughout the Crowsnest Pass and out of town to Pincher Creek, Fort Macleod, Lethbridge, and Calgary. Call Marie @ 403.583.5598 to book your local ride and Darcy @ 403.583.5587 for out-of-town trips.

Local hours of service are:

  • Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 8:30am – 3:00pm. Please book appointments before 2:00pm on these days.
  • Tuesday/Thursday: 9:00am – 5:00pm

Rider fees are:

Local trips $10 one-way, $20 return, with $1 for each additional stop. Same-community rider fees are $5 one-way, $10 return!

Stamp cards for local trips are available for $25 from the driver or at the General Store at the Peaks to Pines Seniors Lodge…a great gift idea!

Out-of-town return trips: Pincher Creek $35; Fort Macleod $75; Lethbridge $100; and Calgary $200. Subsidies are available for individuals who qualify. If possible, please try to arrange appointments in Pincher Creek on the second Tuesday of the month and in Lethbridge on the third Thursday of the month. Your help with this is appreciated!

The out-of-town trips have doubled since January 2026 and our number of active drivers has dwindled, so we desperately need volunteer drivers! If you have a Class 1, 2, or 4 driver's license (or are willing to obtain one) and are able to help us, even once a month, we’d love to hear from you! Honorariums are paid to volunteer drivers.

The Cruisers is also implementing a NEW service model, where volunteer drivers use their own vehicles to take ambulatory riders to out-of-town appointments in Pincher Creek, Lethbridge, and Calgary. If you have a valid Class 5 license and are willing to drive once a month, we would appreciate your help! You will be reimbursed mileage. Call Darcy at 403.583.5587 for more information. More information about the Cruisers is on our website at www.crowsnestcruisers.com.

Bellevue Fireman's Park

BOOKING INFORMATION: As of May 2026, The Bellevue Fireman's Park Society is implimenting a new $50 non-refundable booking fee for all park bookings.

This fee is meant to deter groups from booking and cancelling (often last minute) resulting in other groups not having access to that date. It is also meant to deter groups from utilizing the space and "forgetting" to donate for their usage.

In addition to the fee, we ask that user groups donate an amount (not set) based on # of users, duration and event type. If you are unsure and need guidance on donation amount, reach out to the booking coordinator.

This additional cost is not meant to be cost prohibitive for use. If the fees are outside of your group's budget, please reach out to the booking coordinator to discuss. We believe that the park should be a financially barrier-free destination. Keep in mind that the park is managed and maintained with volunteer hours and donated funds by user groups.

NOTE: The Fireman's Park is a municipal park (walk on users) and managed by the Bellevue Fireman's Park Society. As it is a municipal park, walk on traffic is allowed to enter during park hours. We ask that groups who have booked the park and walk on traffic respect each other while utilizing the park.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Bellevue Fireman's Park Society (BFPS) is looking for a couple energetic and community-minded volunteers to join our board.

The BFPS is responsible for maintaining the park and managing group bookings. As a group we are hoping to breathe some new life into the park and with that we forsee some planning, fund acquisition, advocacy, and project management. Do you need experience in all/any of these things...not necessarily but could be very helpful.

Hate being on a board but want to help??? Let's chat!

For more info, contact Randi Lynn @ 403.707.8574.
