TSB investigation report A21Q0052: collision with a lawn tractor

On July 5, 2021, a private Nanchang CJ6A aircraft was on a recreational flight between Joliette and St-Esprit, Quebec. During the final phase of the landing, the aircraft's right wing struck an open-cab lawn tractor taxiing on the runway. The pilot managed to keep control of the aircraft which ended up in a cultivated field on the edge of the runway. The driver of the lawn tractor was fatally injured. The aircraft was substantially damaged, but the pilot was uninjured.

This accident underlines the importance of pilots obtaining permission to use an aerodrome when prior authorization is required so that aerodrome operators can coordinate the various activities taking place there so that they take place safely.

In addition, people working near a runway must remain vigilant and always scan the runway and its 2 approaches before entering or crossing it.

We welcome a new board member: Samuel Lambert

We are pleased to welcome Samuel Lambert to the Board of Directors.

Samuel has been in the aviation industry since 2011, when he got involved in the relaunch of Club Aéronautique Amos. He has worked in the airport industry since 2015 and is currently Director of Operations for the Val-d'Or Regional Airport,2nd largest regional airport in Quebec. He is a graduate of Concordia University's first cohort specializing in the airport management program. He sits on various airport committees in Quebec, works actively on airport environmental issues and works closely with Transport Canada on regulatory reviews and on various projects. He has also been an advanced ultralight pilot since 2017 and owns his own advanced ultralight aircraft - an AeroCruiser. It is not uncommon to see him in an RVA all over Quebec.

Through his experience in the airport environment, his contacts in the industry and his desire to see general aviation radiated as much in aerodromes as in the largest airports, he can certainly advance the mission of Aviateurs.Québec !

April 23rd 2022 : Annual general assembly

The annual general assembly will be held on April 23rd via Zoom.

An official convocation will send to all membres that are in good standing via a separate email.

The city of Saint-Hyacinthe is committed to providing financial support to the NPO that manages the Saint-Hyacinthe airport and also owns it.

Last fall, the city council chose not to go ahead with the municipalization of the airport. Following this announcement, the owners of the airport decided to form an NPO to ensure its survival and upgrading. “Last October 4, in a public session, we indicated that the City would support the initiative, but that it was too early to agree on specific terms. Today (March 14), we are announcing an agreement that will allow the airport to maintain and improve its service offer,” said the mayor of Saint-Hyacinthe, André Beauregard.

Photo Contest 2022

The 2021 competition is now a thing of the past. The winning photos have been announced in the March/April 2022 issue of L'Aviateur magazine. Here, you see the winning photo for 2021. Pierre-Étienne Bergeron is thus the winner of the 2021 Michel Charette trophy.

And the 2022 contest is back!

You can now send us photos by writing to us at photos@aviateurs.quebec

You have until March 31 at 10 p.m. to send us your photos.

On the subject of photo resolution… most “smart” phones take photos in acceptable resolution and even “high” resolution. But often, the email software used is set to send only low resolution previews. This can be corrected by the user… You can also go through a manipulation by copying the photo and pasting it into the message. It is also possible to use WeTransfer, MailDrop from Apple, Google Drive in Gmail or OneDrive from Microsoft.

THE IMPORTANT is:

  • Give a TITLE to the photo
  • Give the full NAME of the PHOTOGRAPHER
  • Give YOUR full NAME
  • Give your member NUMBER (IN RULE).

For the rest, we will consider that you have read and accepted the rules when you participate...
