Supporting Public Health Human Resource Planning: A Survey of Canadian Universities’ Public Health Training Programs

This document presents the results from the 2022 data collection on programs and students enrolled in and graduating from university-based public health programs in Canada, conducted by the NCCHPP and the NCC for Methods and Tools (NCCMT). It also highlights key findings from four previous data collections conducted since 2005 on these programs, and provides an overview of pan-Canadian initiatives developed for public health workforce planning in Canada. This document is intended to inform ongoing discussions on public health workforce planning and capacity building.

Towards a HiAP Approach for Canada’s Federal, Provincial and Territorial Jurisdictions?

This document aims to provide public health actors with a better understanding of Health in All Policies (HiAP) and to clarify what can be expected from a HiAP approach in the Canadian policy context. HiAP is a policy instrument that articulates a comprehensive vision of health and supports coordinated intersectoral action to improve the social determinants of health. Federal, provincial and territorial governments could adopt a HiAP policy framework to ensure that health is more systematically considered in all public policies under their jurisdictions, beyond health care.

Drawing on the work of the NCCHPP and the experience of the Atlantic Summer Institute on Healthy and Safe Communities, we presented experiences in implementing Health in All Policies from both a top-down and a bottom-up perspective, as well as reflections on training needs.
