Help us make glass recycling easier in Squamish!

The District is looking to launch a pilot program where glass collection stations are set-up throughout the neighbourhoods of Squamish.

The intent is that there will be two totes at multiple locations throughout town, where residents can drop-off glass only, with the purpose of making it more convenient for residents to recycle glass, as well as reduce the amount of glass in our curbside recycling.

SP'AKW'US FEATHER PARK OPENING

The District of Squamish and Matthews West are thrilled to announce the soft opening of Sp’akw’us Feather Park. The culmination of a vision 20 years in the making, the 11-acre municipal-owned park was realized through the dedicated efforts of Matthews West, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), and the District of Squamish.

The community is invited to attend the Sp’akw’us Feather Park soft opening on Saturday May 25 at 2 p.m. to celebrate this exciting milestone.

GOBYBIKE WEEK STARTS JUNE 3

Spring GoByBike Week is June 3 to 9! Register now and experience the joy of spring riding.

Ride to work, to school, for fun, for exercise, to relieve stress, to clear your mind! Whatever the reason, ride your bike and log your total kilometres online and you’ll be entered into a prize draw for some great prizes!

CAMPFIRE BAN IN EFFECT

A municipal campfire ban is in effect due to regional dry weather and wildfires causing a drain on provincial wildfire resources.

  • The fire ban includes all open fires, campfires, and solid fuel cooking appliances such as: charcoal briquettes, wood pellets, wood burning saunas and hot tubs.

  • Existing campfire permits are suspended until further notice.

CleanBC WASTE POLICY - FEEDBACK WANTED

The Province is looking for policy approaches to prevent waste outside the home that will have the best environmental outcomes and build on current successes. Find out more here.

Your input will be used to help develop policies for preventing waste from non-residential packaging, plastic and paper products across the province, the survey is open until July 23.

Battery recycling just got easier in Squamish with a NEW year-round drop-off program and semi-annual curbside battery collection!

STAGE 1 WATER RESTRICTIONS NOW IN EFFECT

Stage 1 Outdoor Water Use restrictions allow for lawn watering two days per week between 4 and 10 a.m., and 7 and 10 p.m. on Thursday and Sunday for odd-numbered addresses, and Wednesday and Saturday for even-numbered addresses.

In Stage 1, a permit is required to water new sod/seeded lawns. Once Stage 2 is in effect permits will no longer be issued. Call Public Works at 604.815.6868 to obtain a free Outdoor Water Use permit to support additional watering to establish new lawns.

ACCESSIBILITY WEEK BEGINS MAY 26

 Be sure to celebrate with a free movie night at the library! The Squamish Public Library and members of the District of Squamish’s Accessibility Committee invite you to a screening of the uplifting documentary Crip Camp. This screening will be held on Wednesday May 29, at 6:30 p.m.

The screening will be followed by a discussion – everyone is welcome to stay for the chat or simply enjoy the film. Popcorn and snacks will be provided!

NEW TEXTILE AND BOOK DONATION BINS IN SQUAMISH

Help reduce recycling contamination and advance the circular economy by visiting the Squamish Public Library and Brennan Park Recreation Centre to drop off your unwanted clothing items and books. 

These new donation bins are made possible thanks to efforts of Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver. We remind all residents to please be respectful when using these bins and only drop-off accepted items (mentioned above). All donations are resold in exchange for funds that support the ability to facilitate their free mentoring programs for children and youth.
