Celebrtaing Our Volunteers

April 24-30 is National Volunteer Week, a time to celebrate all those who donate their time to make our communities better places to live.

At the Bowen Library, we are grateful for our many dedicated volunteers. Volunteers make up the Board of Directors, are involved in book procesing, library programs, and special maintenance projects, and raise funds through book sales—and have done so with positivity throughout the past few challenging years under COVID.

We have also been happy to welcome back our long-time library circulation volunteers in a new capacity, applying their library knowledge to now much-needed collections-based projects and library tasks.

Thank you, volunteers, for all that you do!

Create Blackout Poetry for Poetry Month

In April, people of all ages are invited to make blackout poems and submit them to Bowen Library! We’ll post them in the library for all to read and share some on our social media, website, and newsletter. Short poems also welcome.

Visit us to pick up upcycled book pages, blackout your desired words or lines, and then drop it off at our front desk or through our book drop.

Blackout poetry is when you take a written piece of text from a book, newspaper, or magazine and redact words in order to come up with your very own poetry!

The Library and the Hearth Gallery will soon be swapping out orange fencing for sunny benches, a new plaza, and fresh landscaping.

Work will begin shortly on the Snug Cove Cultural Corner, a project that expands the outdoor community space in the Cove, and provides a sheltered structure for Library and Hearth events such as art demonstrations, live performances, and author readings.

South facing and with delightful views of Snug Cove Marina, the new space will be an aesthetically beautiful gathering place for all members of the community to relax, learn, share, and connect.

Designed by local Tectonic Architecture, the project features a covered programming area, new pathways and lighting, additional benches and seating areas, and landscape work around the Library Annex and Hearth Gallery to finish off the final phase of the Cove Commons project that began in 2018...
