Meeting info

October’s guild meeting will be held in person on Monday, October 16 at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver, 949 W. 49th Ave. Doors open at 6:30pm and the meeting will begin at 7:00pm.

We'll be bringing back Circuit Training for this meeting.  Tess, amy, Lorna and Linda will be our 'trainers'.  Come join in the fun and learn a new tip or two!

Don’t forget:

• blocks for October block lotto—Things in the Garden
• snack to share (optional)
• your own coffee, tea or water
• quilts for Show and Share—email photos so we can share them
• door prize donations
• your name tag!

Membership Renewal

It's October and time to renew your membership! We're looking forward to an awesome year that will include monthly meetings, guest speakers, workshops and a retreat.

We're also working on plans for a Showcase in 2024. Thanks to all who completed the survey; your responses are appreciated. Look for more Showcase details in the next couple of months.

In order to renew, please complete the renewal form and e-transfer your dues to treasurer(at)vancouvermodernquiltguild(dot)ca. Include your name in the e-transfer message box.

November Block Lotto

Appliqué Snowflake

This month’s block is a great lead-up to the Holiday Season and a look back to the days of creating paper snowflakes. The snowflake symbolizes the joy and magic of winter, as well as uniqueness. In nature they are hexagonal due to the way the hydrogen and oxygen molecules attach to one another.

Free appliqué snowflake patterns are available online or you may wish to create your own pattern. The modern snowflake designs tend to be simpler and very easy to appliqué.

So go for it and create your unique snowflake!

Snowflake: solid or low volume white, approx. 8.5 x 8.5"
Block: solid or low-volume blue or grey, approx. 12 x 12"

Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild Retreat

UPDATE: Registration for this retreat has not reached the minimum. We have opened it to other guilds.

The retreat committee is excited to announce that we’ve chosen Stillwood Lodge as our retreat location for April 2024. The camp and conference centre are set on 100 acres overlooking Cultus Lake. We look forward to being together to sew, share ideas and socialise in this lovely spot.

Date: April 11-14, 2024

Location: Stillwood Lodge

Includes: THREE nights accommodation, eight meals (D, BLD, BLD, B), and loads of sewing fun!

Cost: Single $570 or Double/Triple $525

Important Information:

• minimum # of participants is 15, the retreat will be cancelled if this number is not reached by Oct 31, 2023
   
• maximum # of participants is 20, first come (and paid), first served
   
• a $100 non-refundable deposit is required when registering.
  Note: if VMQG cancels the retreat, your deposit will be returned
   
• second payment of $200 due Jan 1, 2024
   
• third payment (balance) due Mar 31, 2024
   
• there are limited single rooms which will be assigned by lottery after Oct 31
   
• Stillwood Lodge has a no alcohol/no drugs/no smoking policy for which VMQG has signed a waiver
   
• NO alcohol/drugs/smoking
   
• participants bring their own bedding.
