As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, so have the travel restrictions and associated measures implemented to curb its spread. Below is a summary of the recent updates.
Important Updates
As of January 7, 2021
- Travellers must receive a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test within 72 hours of boarding a flight to Canada
- Proof of a negative test result must be presented to the airline prior to boarding a flight to Canada
As of January 31, 2021
- The government and Canada’s airlines have agreed to suspend all flights to and from Mexico and Caribbean countries until April 30, 2021
As of February 3, 2021
In addition to proof of a negative pre-departure COVID-19 test, scheduled international commercial passenger flights will arrive at only four Canadian airports:
- Vancouver International Airport
- Calgary International Airport
- Toronto Pearson International Airport, and
- Montréal-Trudeau International Airport
As of February 15, 2021
- The Government of Canada will introduce a 72-hour pre-arrival testing requirement (molecular test) for travellers seeking entry in land mode, with limited exceptions such as commercial truckers
As soon as possible in the coming weeks
- All air travellers arriving in Canada, with very limited exceptions, must reserve a room in a Government of Canada-approved hotel for three nights and take a COVID-19 molecular test on arrival, both at their own cost
- The Government of Canada will introduce a 72-hour pre-arrival testing requirement (molecular test) for travellers seeking entry in land mode, with limited exceptions such as commercial truckers
