Fall 2022

Happy Holidays! We hope you enjoy a safe and healthy holiday season.

HIGHLIGHTS & CELEBRATIONS

FMRG in-person meetings!

The FMRG team came together in Halifax, Nova Scotia in October for a few days of meetings, productive discussions, and fun! For many of us, it was our first time meeting each other in-person.

Dr. Ashley Williams received her PhD!

Dr. Williams’ PhD, supervised by Drs. Heidi Cramm and Catherine Donnelly, focused on Veterans’ experience of the health service transition associated with military-to-civilian transition with a focus on primary care access and provision. Ashley is continuing her work in this area in her post-doctoral fellowship where she studies military and Veteran cultural competence among civilian healthcare providers. Other research interests include health service access among military families and wellbeing of public safety personnel and their families.

Dr. Kamaldeep Gill received the Col. Russell Mann Award!

Dr. Gill received the Col. Russell Mann Military, Veteran, and Public Safety Families Research Award, sponsored by The Vanier Institute of the Family, at CIMVHR Forum 2022 for her presentation, A Systematic Review of Suicidality amongst Military Family Members: Prevalence and Associated Factor. This work is part of a multi-year research program funded by Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families, conducted by an international team (Drs. Denise Dubois, Heidi Cramm, Nicola Fear, Alyson Mahar, Janette Leroux).

Dr. Gill is a postdoctoral fellow with FMRG, funded through Mitacs in partnership with Wounded Warriors Canada, where she is engaged in a program evaluation of the Surviving Spouses Program.
