Allo Darlin,
Just one issue of Marketing Snacks this month. A reflective rendition, 'cus we be nerds about such things, yar? Yaarrrr!
Part 1: Shoo, 2025, shoo! đ
all month, during Zoom meetings, LinkedIn DMs, and holiday luncheons, I've been asking folk:
What are you leaving behind in 2025?
I love this question because:
- You get to reflect on something negative (thatâs healthy!).
- And then honour yourself by leaving it behind. Done and dusted, as they say.
What Iâm leaving behind in 2025: adding detailed reasoning to things I say no to. Iâm not talking about the obvious âoh boy thatâs a red flag/waste of timeâ moments. Those are easy. I mean the âwell this might lead to somethingâ or âwell, that person was nice and their ask intentionalâ instances. You know, the ones where I didnât want to let people down with my decline.
So like a typical recovering people pleaser, I would spend sooooo much energy explaining my no. Logically I knew being clear is being kind, but emotionally? Gotta wring that hat, over explain and (sometimes) leave doors half-heartedly open.
No more! I've gathered a few succinct replies I can use that feel authentic and clear... and have them readily accessible on my phone, laptop, and carrier pigeon.
Over to you, Darlin. What are you leaving behind in 2025?
Part 2: Oh heyyyyyy 2026 đ
But anyway, 2025 already took up like, 348 days of our time (yeeesh). Onto new things...
Do you do the whole âWord for the Yearâ thing? I do!
2026 is gonna be âMightyâ as in âpossessing great and impressive power or strength, especially on account of size.â
(in my case, the size of massive decisions and outcomes I plan to achieve vs my wee soloist statue and expectations. I'm just 5'5'' but I can pack a punch!)
And you gotta have a theme song to go along with your Word for the Year. That way when you feel outta sorts, just put that jam on and be reminded that you mean business.
Mine is 'Stamina' by Vitalic (hereâs a live version of the song⌠super duper flashing lights warning!) Again, one weeeeeeee person on stage producing miiiiiiiiighty big sounds.
Do you have a Word/theme song for 2026? I wanna know!
Otherwise, I hope the closing out of 2025 is as smooth as possible, that you roll into 2026 in a way that charges you up, and that an extra snack comes out of the next vending machine you use.
Thank you for being a reader of this silly newsletter. See ya in January!
