How to get marketing grants
(with list of grants)

You’ve set your marketing goals, and now you’re ready to make shit happen. Exceppppt you could use a little cash injection. Lucky for you, I just updated my post on How to Get Marketing Grants for a Canadian Small Business (with list of grants).

This post is also handy to help translate your needs (like a website redesign, social media support, or strategic planning) to what grant applications actually look for to increase your odds of getting accepted.

Note: the next Amber Grant is due Jan 31st!

My question to you: not sure how to translate your business goals into marketing needs that will be appropriate for a grant? I'd love to help! I offer a 30 minute no obligation consultation.

2026 Candian special awareness calendar

Charity Village has put out the 2026 Special Awareness calendar containing both national and provincial/territory dates. It’s a great resource to look through and see where you can support missions that align with your brand and plan your content in advance.

My question to you: what is another brand could you collaborate with (interview, run a special workshop, fundraise, etc) to double visibility during this moment of recognition/awareness?

What to do when you want to give up

Listen Darlin, I’d be lying if I said I never had days I was getting impatient or downright discouraged by a marketing project. The idea stage feels awesome, and so does getting shit done. But that annoying doing the thing middle bit? Gross. And when we don't get the results we want? Bleeehhhhhhh.

My pals over at Kelford Labs have a great twist on how to keep going when you want to give up: 10 More Times talks about the value of applying a literal number of tries to avoid quitting too soon. A nice short read to inspire on this 2nd week of January where some of that initial "things will be different this time!" feeling may be waring off.

My question to you: what ways can you break down a bigger marketing project into smaller bite-sized chunks over time that help maintain momentum?

"Good morning to everyone apart from the people who design adverts with fake hair on them, so you swipe to try and get rid of the hair, and end up clicking on the ad.

Seriously, I hope your coffee is cold and rancid, and your toast is mouldy."

Found this post by Kate Ingham-Smith and yes I TRIED TO SWIPE IT TOO.

Feelings matter! 🎭

When creating blog posts, newsletters, videos, or social media posts… how do you want folk to FEEL once they see what you created?

As consultants and knowledge experts handling our own marketing, we can get a weeeeee bit tunnel visiony with what we want people to do:

Comment! Book a call! Remember us when the time is right!

But all of this hinges on making them feel a certain way to take those actions. So before you hit 'publish', make sure you're inviting the appropriate emotional notes that inspire people to reflect and act instead of scroll. This means double checking things such as:

  • Opening with curious and attention-grabbing visuals and language that draws them in.
  • Adding more descriptive words or storytelling elements to make concepts more tangible.
  • Noticing if you’re leaning too much on what you offer, instead of the outcomes it produces.
  • Making sure you wrap things up with one clear next step or intention that is about improving their state of being in the moment instead of booking a call to catch that high.

Need some help naming those feelings? Here’s a handy wheel you can spin around.

Topics covered in recent client sessions:

  • Updating LinkedIn profiles to better reflect unique point of view and why someone should connect.

  • Addressing limiting beliefs holding back expansion into new markets.

  • How to plan and communicate needs to a designer for a website relaunch.

  • Preparing a new marketing team hire for onboarding.
