Builders Breakfast - Feb 23, 2024

If you work in the home building industry, please come out for a free breakfast at Penticton Lakeside Resort and to learn about the Step Code and Zero Carbon Step Code.

Building Code changes were implemented province-wide on May 1, 2023. This is your chance to hear all about them from a senior building official, a building scientist, CHBA's BC's Vice President, and experienced Energy Advisors. They'll show you proven, cost-effective strategies for improving energy efficiency in new construction using the performance pathway. This event is pre-approved for two (2) CPD points through BCHousing.

This event is free of charge but you must register on Eventbrite.

Here is a separate note from the CEA.

New BC Building Codes

The BC Code 2024 takes effect March 8, 2024 - except adaptable dwelling and earthquake changes which take effect March 10, 2025.

For a more comprehensive list of all Code changes, please review the BOABC website.

New Code Education courses can be found on the BOABC website.

The new BC Codes and legislation can be reviewed via 2024 BC Codes link. Please note that the current online version of the 2024 Code does not specify changes and is static format similar to the 2020 NBC.

Cold Weather Requirements

As the tempereatures start dropping, this is a good time to ensure all precautions against freezing are taken.

We all know this can have an adverse affect on footings, framing and interior finishes.  Precautions should be taken to ensure safety related to type and placement of heating and hoarding.

Exteriors should also be substantially covered prior to installing insulations.
