THE BEDFORD SOUTH REPORT

Bayers Lake Outpatient Center Open

Hi everyone,

I hope you are enjoying the beautiful fall weather and can get out and about in our community.

I recently travelled to Scotland as part of The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Secretariat Advanced Residency Programme. Alongside legislators from many other Commonwealth nations, I was able to speak on the floor of the Scottish Parliament in a mock debate and we discussed and worked on common challenges as well as shared and contributed valuable insights on how as legislators we can find ways to strengthen our democratic institutions for the benefit of all.

My official opposition duties are Shadow Minister for Housing, Healthcare Redevelopment, Service Nova Scotia, and Youth. I am also the Liberal Caucus Whip. Please reach out to my office if you have any questions (or answers) you would like to discuss on these or any issues.

As the Shadow Minister for Healthcare Redevelopment and the MLA for Bedford South, I was thrilled to attend the official opening of the Bayers Lake Community Outpatient Centre with some of my colleagues earlier this month. This Facility will serve a crucial role in our healthcare system and since it is just down the highway from our riding of Bedford South, I’m sure it will be heavily used by so many in our community.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank HRM Councillor Tim Outhit and his family for the many thoughtful years of dedicated service to our community and his myriad of contributions over a great career in Municipal politics. Tim has announced he will not be running in next year’s municipal election. Heartfelt thanks for all your advice and time, Tim, and I know you’ll keep working hard until your last day in the office.

All the best,

The Bayers Lake Community Outpatient Centre is now open

The facility opened this month and will provide a wide range of services and help reduce pressure on other facilities that provide outpatient services across Halifax Regional Municipality and West Hants. It is part of a multi-year redevelopment plan to replace aging healthcare buildings with modern facilities.

The new facility has more than 100 clinical spaces and 24 dialysis stations. It offers appointment-based services such as X-ray, blood work and ultrasound, as well as eye care, orthopedic assessment, and rehabilitation, and more.

Light Up Bedford Parade

Sunday November 19th was a perfect night for the Light Up Bedford Parade. We had so much fun, and my family and I even got to meet Santa before the parade started.

It was an incredible event and thanks to all of you who came out, all who put in a float, and of course, many thanks to the organizers and volunteers.

It was also great to walk with Kelly Regan, MLA Bedford Basin, and Tim Outhit, District 16 HRM Councillor.
