Council Highlights

Council Meetings provide residents with an opportunity to stay informed and engaged in decisions that shape the community. Meetings can be attended in person at Town Hall or viewed live online through the Town’s website, with agendas and minutes also available for review.

June Snapshot

Investing in Recreation - Niagara-on-the-Lake received a $145,000 investment through Airbnb's Host City Fund to enhance local soccer and community infrastructure, helping improve recreational opportunities for residents and visitors alike.

Celebrating Seniors Month - The annual Strawberry Social brought together 300 senior residents for an afternoon of connection and entertainment, with an additional 261 strawberry tarts delivered to local long-term care homes. This event was made possible through the generosity of Seaway Farms, which donated the fresh strawberries, and PigOut Catering, which prepared a delicious luncheon. Guests also enjoyed live piano music by Frank Krahn and special performances by kindergarten students from St. Davids Public School.

Cross-Border Leaders Connect in Niagara-on-the-Lake – Niagara-on-the-Lake welcomed business, community, and government leaders from both Canada and the United States for the NOTL Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Luncheon at Aura on the Lake. The event had meaningful discussions on tourism, agriculture, economic development, and regional collaboration, highlighting the importance of strengthening relationships and working together to support a vibrant cross-border relationship.

Neighbourhood of the Year - Congratulations to Chautauqua, the recipient of the Town's 2026 Neighbourhood of the Year Award. The neighbourhood was recognized for its strong community spirit, volunteerism, and neighbourly support, qualities that help make Niagara-on-the-Lake such a welcoming place to live.

Summer at the Library - A special summer shoutout to the Niagara-on-the-Lake Public Library for its exciting lineup of programs, reading challenges, and activities that continue to bring residents of all ages together to learn, discover, and connect.

300 Years of History - This year marks the 300th anniversary of the French Castle at Old Fort Niagara, a significant milestone celebrating the rich shared history of the Niagara area.

New Splash Pad Feature - The Virgil Sports Park Splash Pad got even more exciting this summer with the addition of a brand-new bucket feature. Kids can enjoy this new splash pad feature to cool off and have fun all season long.

New Airport Connection Service - Travelling to and from Niagara-on-the-Lake is becoming even easier. The Niagara District Airport now offers a motorcoach connection to Toronto Pearson through Air Canada and Landline, providing residents, visitors and local businesses with a more convenient gateway to destinations around the world while supporting tourism, economic growth and regional connectivity.

New This Election: Online Voting for Advanced Voting

Niagara-on-the-Lake is introducing online voting as part of the 2026 Municipal Council and School Board Election's advancing voting, providing voters with a convenient and accessible way to cast their ballot.

Online voting opens on October 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. and will remain open until October 25, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. Be on the lookout for your Voter's Card, which contains all the information you need to vote online.

Voting day for the 2026 Municipal Council and School Board election is Monday, October 26, 2026. Residents are encouraged to visit the Register to Vote website to confirm, update, or add their information to the voter's list ahead of the election to ensure they receive important election information and instructions.

The Nomination Period ends on August 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

Coming Up in July

Canada Day Celebrations – Celebrate Canada Day on July 1 with free family-friendly activities at Fort George National Historic Site, a Rotary Club BBQ in Simcoe Park from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the annual Cake Parade on Queen Street, live entertainment, historical demonstrations, and a fireworks display at 10:00 p.m.

Heritage Designation Event – On July 15 at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum, the Town is recognizing newly designated heritage properties and the owners helping preserve the Town's unique history and character.

Community Soccer Viewing Event – Watch the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Championship match on the big screen at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre on July 19. Enjoy complimentary refreshments, connect with neighbours, and celebrate the world's biggest sporting event together. 

Be Part of the Next Community Guide - The Town is accepting submissions for the 2026-2027 Fall/Winter Community Guide. Community groups, non-profit organizations, museums, health services, and religious organizations are invited to share programs, services, and activities for free inclusion. Submit your information by July 17 and help residents discover everything Niagara-on-the-Lake has to offer.

Community Engagement Framework

The Town, led by its consultants at StrategyCorp, will be inviting residents to share their thoughts on how it engages with the community through a public survey and in-person opportunities as part of the development of a refreshed Community Engagement Framework.

Transportation Master Plan

The Town will soon offer residents the opportunity to provide feedback on the updated Transportation Master Plan, led by its consultants at Stantec.

Community Milestones

Congratulations, Grade 8 Graduates - Congratulations to all Grade 8 students across Niagara-on-the-Lake on reaching this important milestone. We wish you a fun-filled summer and every success as you begin your high school journey!

St. Davids Dragons Win Golf Championship - Congratulations to the St. Davids Public School Dragons on winning the DSBN Golf Invitational at Eagle Valley Golf Course. The team delivered an outstanding performance, earning top honours among schools from across the Niagara region.

As students begin their summer break, the Town extends a thank-you to all students, teachers, and school communities for another successful year of collaboration and engagement. We wish everyone a safe, enjoyable, and well-deserved summer break!

Service Updates and Reminders

Line 2 Reconstruction – Reconstruction of Line 2 from Concession 6 Road to Niagara Stone Road is underway. The project includes road, sewer, drainage, sidewalk, and lighting improvements and is expected to continue through 2026.

Regent Street Culvert Replacement – Work begins July 6 on the Regent Street Culvert Replacement project, which will improve drainage, reduce flooding impacts, enhance pedestrian access, and upgrade roadside safety features.

Sidewalk and Curb Repairs – The Town's annual sidewalk and curb repair program is underway across all five villages, helping maintain safe and accessible infrastructure for residents and visitors.

Road Resurfacing Program – Road resurfacing work is continuing throughout the summer across Niagara-on-the-Lake, with improvements planned in all five villages to help maintain local road infrastructure.

Property Tax Due Dates – The 2026 Final Property Tax installment due dates are July 31 and September 25. Payment options are available online, by mail, in person, or through pre-authorized payment plans.

Municipal Accommodation Tax – Accommodation providers are reminded of upcoming MAT remittance deadlines. Visit the Town's website for reporting requirements and submission information.

Fire Safety Reminder – Open-air burning, including campfires, is not permitted in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Residents are encouraged to review local regulations and fire safety requirements before using approved outdoor fire features.

Civic Holiday Closure – Town Hall will be closed on Monday, August 3, for the Civic Holiday and will reopen during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) on Tuesday, August 4.

The 2026 Municipal Election is approaching, and now is the perfect time to make sure you're ready to cast your ballot.

Visit RegisterToVoteON.ca to check if you're on the voters list, update your information, or register if you've recently moved or become eligible to vote. Keeping your information current helps ensure you receive important election information and can vote quickly and easily on election day. It only takes a few minutes to confirm your details and be election-ready.

New Resident Guide and Welcome Package

Moving to a new community can be an exciting yet challenging experience, often filled with lots of questions. Town Staff receive inquiries from new residents about a variety of topics, including garbage and recycling collection, recreational programs, permits, services, and community resources.

To make transitioning to Niagara-on-the-Lake easier, the Town offers a New Resident Guide and Welcome Package. This resource has essential information, frequently requested services, and community contacts in one convenient location, helping new residents find what they need and connect with local resources.

The Welcome Package is designed to help residents feel informed, engaged, and at home from their very first day. Whether you are new to Niagara-on-the-Lake or know someone who has recently moved here, be sure to explore this valuable resource. New residents can pick up a Welcome Package at Town Hall (1593 Four Mile Creek Road, Virgil).
