Welcome to this week's Educator Resources, 'Sikh Heritage Month.' In 2013, the Legislative Assembly of Ontario (Bill 52) proclaimed April as Sikh Heritage Month, which is the "first of its kind in the world." The links below include recommended resources to commemorate this month (and every month), focusing on celebrating the arts, culture, and heritage of Sikh people.

Educator Resources:

  1. This Sikh Heritage Month Guide (2022), developed by the Toronto District School Board Library, includes a diverse selection of resources in support of this month's theme: "Come to learn, go to serve; the goal of education is to serve humanity."
  2. Check out these lessons plans (K-10) developed by the Sikh Heritage Museum of Canada.
  3. For Grades 3+, "[t]his lesson explores the importance of hair and relationship with identity within the Sikh, Black and Indigenous Communities."
