En-tête Aéro Montréal

Aéro Montréal's mission is to mobilize stakeholders in Quebec's aerospace ecosystem to support its global reach, innovation capacity and growth.

// MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear members, dear partners,

Just a month ago, Aéro Montréal renewed its tradition of organizing a day at the Québec National Assembly. This event, which is intended to represent the industry's needs to government officials, had not taken place since the start of the pandemic in 2020. Aéro Montréal's Board of Directors turned out en masse for the occasion. More than 20 members were on hand to meet with representatives from 11 government departments.

We all approached the day with one idea in mind: to highlight the need to find solutions to fill the 41,500 jobs that will become available in our sector over the next decade.

As part of this proactive approach, Board members had the opportunity to meet with key government players. In addition to our meeting with Pierre Fitzgibbon, Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy, Minister Responsible for Regional Economic Development and Minister Responsible for the Metropolis and the Montréal Region, we also met with Pascale Déry, Minister of Higher Education, and Kateri Champagne Jourdain, Minister of Employment, to discuss ways to overcome the talent shortage that is hampering our growth.

These discussions were complemented by fruitful meetings with the team from the Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Francisation et de l'Intégration (MIFI). We are encouraged by the growing closeness with this ministry, and we’re already beginning to see the tangible benefits of these discussions. At the start of next year, we’ll be holding an information meeting with the MIFI team to review immigration processes, tools to facilitate retention and French language training for foreign workers. We will also take the opportunity to update you on upcoming recruitment opportunities. Don't miss it!

Of course, this is just the beginning, and we’ll need to continue our efforts over the coming year to accelerate the implementation of effective actions. As a member of the cluster, you have a role to play too: by sharing what you do every day and the skills you’ll need tomorrow, you’ll help to expand the talent pool we’ll be building for years to come.

MÉLANIE LUSSIER
President
AÉRO MONTRÉAL

YOU'VE JUST STARTED YOUR ROLE AS PRESIDENT OF THE HUMAN RESOURCES WORKING GROUP. WHAT ARE ITS MAIN OBJECTIVES?

The Working Group will be focusing its actions on THREE PRIORITY AREAS :

  1. Implementing a strategy to attract the next generation of workers to the many employment opportunities in the industry.
  2. Continuing discussions with the government to position the aerospace industry.
  3. Sharing best practices among OEMs and SMEs alike.

WHAT CONCRETE ACTIONS WILL THE WORKING GROUP TAKE IN 2024?

Several types of action are planned:

Implementing an action plan to follow up on the study of the next generation’s perception of our industry.
Reaching out to young people in schools and introducing them to the dynamism of the aerospace industry.
Regularly share our actions across the cluster to maximize our impact.
Interacting with different levels of government to get the support our industry deserves.
Continue to raise the profile of our SMEs among the next generation of workers.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST PRACTICES THAT COMPANIES HAVE ADOPTED TO EXPAND THEIR CANDIDATE POOL?

For both OEMs and SMEs, the companies that come out on top will be those able to:

➤ Promote a positive image of the sector and its employment opportunities.
➤ Work on their employer brand to reach new generations.
➤ Implement effective DE&I policies.
➤ Use immigration to meet their short-term needs.

WHAT ARE THE WINNING LEVERS TO ATTRACT THE NEXT GENERATION TO THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY?

We have a collective challenge to win back the next generation by:

Demonstrating the industrial resilience and diversification of our industry.
Communicating long-term employment prospects.
Providing concrete examples of a highly innovative industry at the forefront of technology, in particular thanks to artificial intelligence.

INCORPORATING AN EDI SUPPORT PROGRAM

»  DESIGNED FOR AEROSPACE SMES TO DEVELOP A TALENT MANAGEMENT STRATEGY TO PROMOTE AN INCLUSIVE CORPORATE CULTURE

__

The industry currently faces challenges including gender inequality, lack of ethnic and cultural diversity, and the impending retirement of the Baby Boomer and Gen X generations. Companies must therefore innovate and rethink their strategy to attract, recruit and retain the most qualified people.

Today, employees are not only concerned about their personal financial satisfaction when accepting a position but want to work for an employer who:

values balance between personal and professional life
exerts a positive influence on society
is at the forefront of sustainability
actively encourages environmental, social and governance principles
promotes a culture focused on EDI issues.

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?

» What ?
Inclusive Succession Planning aims to implement an action plan to increase awareness, promote careers to various audiences, and facilitate the recruitment and growth of a workforce from the diversity.

» How ?
The program begins with a comprehensive diagnosis to assess the organization’s level of equity-diversity-inclusion (EDI) maturity. Then, a personalized concerted action plan is put in place to support companies and equip them to be more inclusive.

» Why ?
Integrating an EDI program into a company's vision and values helps organizations attract and retain talent, and increase their brand image and workforce effectiveness, in addition to improving their competitiveness.

BENEFITS

- The support offered makes it possible to prioritize concrete and diligent actions to develop an inclusive culture within the company. -

1 – Support worth $10,000 for only $2,000 investment

3 – Personalized recommendations
4 – Promotes an attractive public image for talents
5 – Increases the feeling of inclusion of employees
