School of Kinesiology recognizes student leadership and community engagement contribution during 2018/19

On March 7, 2019, the School of Kinesiology returned to the Ponderosa Ballroom to host its 10th annual Student Leadership Recognition Evening.

This event recognizes the commitment, dedication, and service of undergraduate Kinesiology students who have held a leadership role within the School of Kinesiology or the Kinesiology Undergraduate Society (KUS) throughout the 2018/2019 academic year. [Read More]

 

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT 

Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences

Congress 2019 is the largest humanities and social sciences conferences in Canada, bringing together over 10,000 academics from all over Canada for a week in June.

Congress 2019 is currently recruiting for 1,000 volunteers and 120 contract positions in varying roles. This opportunity would allow students to gain exposure to global academics, giving you a chance to network and participate in exclusive events. The conference will be happening during a break in summer classes from June 1 - 7.

Thinking of a career in research? The NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Awards and Work Learn International Undergraduate Research Awards (WLIURA) subsidize professors to hire students to work on their research projects.

In this paid position, you’ll work with a professor to apply your classroom learning in an academic environment. Plus, you’ll gain valuable work and research experience.

Game Changers: How Are Assistive Technologies Making Sport Accessible?

April 8, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM | Alumni Centre

The School of Kinesiology sends you a special invitation to attend Game Changers: Assistive Technology and Sport! Learn from KIN faculty member Dr. Andrea Bundon, MA'08, PhD'14, who specializes in sport, disability and social inclusion. From wheelchair basketball to adaptive skiing, assistive technologies are helping break down barriers to sport participation for persons with disabilities or health concerns – and support individual mental and physical wellbeing.

Join us as our panel of athletes, changemakers, and leaders share their personal experiences, and discuss ways that sport is being transformed – by technology and people – to broaden participation and to change our understandings of (dis)ability. Beyond just technology, we’ll hear stories of resilience and perseverance, while also gaining a better understanding of what more is needed to ensure equal participation for all.

Tickets are $10. Free for students. Light refreshments will be served.

Creating Connections 6.0

Creating Connections 6.0 is a biennial diversity conference on attracting, engaging, and retaining women and underrepresented groups in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Our conference welcomes STEM professionals, academics, and students of all genders and backgrounds for two days of personal and professional development, networking, and inspiration. Creating Connections is hosted by Westcoast Women in Engineering, Science and Technology (WWEST), the operating name of the current NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering for the BC/Yukon Region held by Professor Lesley Shannon of Simon Fraser University.
