Completing the Snug Cove Cultural Corner at Cove Commons in 2021

Bowen Island Public Library Foundation and The Hearth—Arts on Bowen are thrilled to announce that we have been successful in our grant application for funding to complete the Snug Cove Cultural Corner.

The Library Foundation has been awarded $398,000 from the Province of BC’s Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program (CERIP) to construct a public community square at the Cove Commons. The project includes an outdoor covered stage, additional covered seating areas, expansion of the plaza and walkways, and completion of hard and soft landscaping around both the Library and the Gallery.

You Asked About... How to Recommend a Book for Our Collection

In our most recent survey, you asked us how you can suggest a purchase (book title, kit, etc.) for the Library's collection. Perhaps you enjoyed a book so much, you'd like others to read it, or maybe there's a subject you'd like to see more of in our non-fiction collection.

Patrons can use our Suggest a Purchase form on our website.

We make purchasing decisions based on a number of criteria, including age of the material, availability, other materials in our collection, expected usage, practicability of lending, and of course budget.

We are grateful for all suggestions, as they tell us about the interests of our patrons. While we cannot guarantee that we will be able to purchase every suggested item, we do carefully consider all suggested purchases.

New in Children's Nonfiction: Indigenous Communities in Canada Series

Approximately 1.4 million Indigenous people live in Canada today, and come from a large number of communities, each with its own history, language, and cultural practices. There are 198 First Nations in BC alone.

New to the Bowen library's children's nonfiction collection are several titles from the Indigenous Canadian Communities in Canada (True North) collection. Readers can learn about cultures across northern Turtle Island with this informative series.
