October 2022

What does your dream library look like? We want to know!

We are reaching out to communities across Vancouver Island, Haida Gwaii and Bella Coola this month to gather input and ideas about the future of our library system. Join us for one of our community or virtual engagement sessions, fill out a survey or dig deep into the issues that matter to you in one of our focus groups. Your input will help us create our 2023-2027 strategic plan. There are so many ways to get involved! Have your say and help shape the library of tomorrow.

It's Library Month!

October is Canadian Library Month.

All month long, libraries like ours and library partners are raising awareness of the role libraries play in Canadians’ lives.

More than just a place to find books, libraries promote cultural awareness, engage in the community, provide educational programs, support freedom of expression and so much more.

Celebrate Library Month by exploring your local library and all of the amazing resources you have at your fingertips.

Cool things to do at the library

Costume swaps and lending libraries

Our Nanaimo and Campbell River branches are collecting Halloween costume donations this month.

Our Nanaimo team is partnering with the non-profit organization Mamas to Mamas on creating a lending library of kids Halloween costumes. Any child who needs a costume, will be able to access one at the library. Help Nanaimo grow its stock by donating gently-used costumes to any of the three Nanaimo branches. On October 22, families can visit the Nanaimo Harbourfront branch to pick out a Halloween costume and take part in Halloween activities.

Campbell River is also collecting donations this month for Halloween revelers of any age. People can drop off costumes during branch hours until October 20 to get a voucher to take a new costume on October 21.
