Be FireSmartTM This Summer

You can do your part to make sure everyone has a safe and fun summer. Reduce the risk of wildfires by following these tips:

  • Clear dead brush, dry debris and other combustibles from within 10 metres of your home, clean your roof and gutters and keep your lawn short.
  • Remove branches overhanging the roof of your house and keep all lower tree branches pruned up by at least two metres.
  • Clean and maintain your BBQ before using it and never leave it unattended while cooking.
  • Properly extinguish and dispose of all smoking material. NEVER throw cigarette butts out the window of your car. Not only is it littering, it’s also the cause of many wildfires.
  • If you heading out in the country to ATV or dirtbike, make sure to stick to well-worn trails and carry fire suppression equipment.
  • Call 911 to report all fires no matter the size.
  • Make sure to sign up for Voyent Alert!, the City’s emergency alert system. Download the app for free or call us at 250-758-5222.

Woodgrove Area Plan

Last chance! Have your say before July 2! The Woodgrove Area planning project has entered Phase 2 and we are sharing some growth scenarios for your input.

This project is focused on transforming this area into a vibrant, mixed-use urban centre. The latest phase of the project focuses on understanding what actions we can take to move this area closer to becoming a complete community (an area where someone can live and access most of their basic needs within a 15-20 minute walk or bike ride) and what impacts future growth may have on transportation (roads, cycle lanes, sidewalks and transit) and infrastructure (water mains, sewer mains, etc.) networks and Woodgrove residents’ ability to access their daily needs.

We want to hear your feedback on the findings as the survey closes July 2, 2025. To explore the scenarios, learn more about the project, and take the survey, visit: https://www.getinvolvednanaimo.ca/woodgrove

Thank you for your participation!
