SECONDARY CAREGIVERS

As the primary caregiver, you are the person at the heart of your loved one’s support. Perhaps you feel alone in this caregiving role? The CLSC oversees the health and well-being of the population it serves. Therefore, it offers many services that meet the needs of seniors and individuals with limitations (e.g., respite, personal care, nursing care, psychotherapy, day centre).

THE SOCIAL EXCLUSION OF CAREGIVERS

Being a caregiver is a responsibility. Whether your loved one lives at home or in a residential facility, you are often called to change – sometimes considerably – your plans. Fatigue, lack of time, but also guilt and concerns about the well-being of your loved one can relegate the time dedicated to your social activities to the back burner.

To counter isolation among caregivers, Hélène Carbonneau uses a pleasure-based approach. A simple initiative that provides psychological comfort to seniors and helps the social reintegration of caregivers by optimizing pleasant moments in their daily lives.

WHO WE ARE

Founded in 2009, L’Appui pour les proches aidants d’aînés strives to improve the quality of life of caregivers of seniors, lighten their daily workload and ensure that they take full advantage of the resources at their disposal.

We have a strong presence throughout Quebec, thanks to 17 regional Appui offices and a specific agreement for the Cree Territory of James Bay. Each regional office supports local organizations promoting caregivers’ well-being and providing services adapted to their needs.

Each region manages its own fund and invests in a variety of direct services for caregivers of older adults.
