COMMUNITY SERVICES PROGRAMMING
September Safety & Enforcement Focus
Each month, our Community Peace Officers focus on key areas to support safety and well-being in Crowsnest Pass. Here’s what they’re keeping an eye on this month:
Back to School Safety It’s almost that time again! September’s Alberta Traffic Safety focus is “Back to school.” Expect more kids walking and biking. About 1,000 child pedestrians are injured in Canada each year, so please slow down, watch crosswalks, and stop for school buses.
Alcohol and Drug Impairment Impaired driving remains a leading cause of road deaths: studies estimate between one-third and one-half of motor-vehicle fatalities involve alcohol and/or drugs, and police lay about nine impaired-driving charges or short-term suspensions every hour in Canada. Drug-impaired driving is now as common as alcohol-impaired. Plan a sober ride, every time.
Speed Speed is a key September focus: in Alberta, 24% of fatal collisions in 2021 involved drivers going too fast for conditions. At 30 km/h, nine in ten people survive a crash; at 50 km/h, fewer than two in ten do—please slow down, especially in school and playground zones.
RV Parking Seasonal RV Parking Reminder: Please move RVs off municipal streets by October 1. Under the Traffic Bylaw, RVs cannot be parked on any street from October 1 to April 30. Between May 1 and September 30, on-street RV parking is only allowed immediately beside your residence and must not create a hazard; detached trailers are not permitted on streets at any time. Fines for improper RV parking/storage start at $250. Thank you for helping keep roads clear for snow and emergency access.
For the 2026 season the CNPVC intends to run September tryouts according to Volleyball Alberta guidelines for the following teams ONLY. 18U Girls, 17U Girls, 16U Girls, 15U Girls. Other age groups will have December tryouts but can still email athlete name and birthdate as interest. Tentative tryout dates for these teams:
Registration and $30 tryout fee can be e-transferred to cnpvolleyballclub@gmail.com
As a result of a grant received from TC Energy and generous donations from the Pincher Creek Legion, Pincher Creek Lions and Coleman Lions, the Friends of Crowsnest Community Library is able to continue to work in partnership with 5 Livingstone Range Elementary Schools to offer the popular literacy program One Book, Five Schools again this school year. In January, families in Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass and Lundbreck will be participating in a giant book club as they all read the same book in their homes, and the children are given opportunities to react to the story in their schools.
You are invited to join the Friends at their annual General Meeting where you will learn more about how we are involved in this and other community literacy programs. The meeting is September 29th at 1:00 pm at the Library. Refreshments will be served.
We hope to see you there.
