Pool Closure Update

We thank the community for your patience. Our goal remains to reopen the pool as quickly and safely as possible. We know the pool closure has been extremely disruptive, and we want to ensure the community that staff have been putting every effort towards a path to reopening with the regulator, Vancouver Coastal Health.

We are now able to provide an update on our progress over the course of the past few weeks.

Read the full update and find Frequently Asked Questions at squamish.ca/pool.

Mount Garibaldi Cemetery expansion project

The Mount Garibaldi Cemetery is nearing capacity and requires expansion to continue serving the community. This project began on March 3, with forest and vegetation clearing, followed by construction expected from July to December 2025.

During the project, some minor impacts are expected. Cemetery access will be reduced, and there will be temporary cremation delays until March 17. Nearby residents and visitors may experience noise from chainsaws, tree felling, and trucking, as well as increased truck traffic on Government Road. Additionally, the adjacent trail to the east will be temporarily closed, with signage posted to indicate the closure.

Updates to DCC and ACC Bylaw

Please be advised that the 2025 Development Cost Charges (DCC) Bylaw update will not be presented to Council for consideration on Tuesday, March 18. Staff are looking at the feasibility and implications of phasing in the new DCC rates over two to three years following input from stakeholder engagement. Staff will bring forward an updated DCC Bylaw to a future Council meeting for consideration. A further update will be provided once a new Council date is set.

Please note that the introduction of the Amenity Cost Contribution Bylaw will remain on the Council agenda for Tuesday, March 18.
