As we approach June—National Indigenous History Month and Pride Month—this week’s educator resources, Honouring Identity, History, and Belonging, focus on supporting student mental health and well-being by cultivating inclusive, respectful learning spaces that honour diverse identities, acknowledge historical truths and their ongoing impacts, and promote belonging for all students.

Educator Resources:

1. Developed by a diverse group of contributers, including Christi Belcourt and Isaac Murdoch, Lessons from the Earth and Beyond (K-Grade 10) invites students to explore diverse worldviews, including Indigenous perspectives, to cultivate respect, curiosity, and a deeper sense of belonging in relation to Earth and each other.

2. Provided by Kenjgewin Teg with wisdom shared by Isaac Day-Murdoch, Indigenous Knowledge & Our Connection to the Land introduces educators to foundational principles of Indigenous knowledge, offering pathways to respectfully integrate Indigenous perspectives, histories, and worldviews into learning spaces that affirm identity and promote belonging.

3. Provided by the Canadian Teachers’ Federation, Affirming Gender Diversity (Grades 7-12), helps to create inclusive spaces by deepening understanding of gender diversity, challenging harmful assumptions, and cultivating respect for all identities.
