Hi

What's New at IHC

Dr. Sarah Soles, ND is Transitioning to Virtual Care

In September, Dr. Soles will be moving with her family to the Comox Valley and transitioning to a virtual practice. She will continue to provide care through the IHC with phone and video appointments during her current hours (Mondays and Thursdays 9-4, Fridays 9-3). Her patients will continue to have access to the services and testing offered at the IHC while seeing her virtually. For her current patients wishing to continue with in-person appointments, Dr. Soles is happy to recommend another ND at the IHC who would be well-suited for their case.

Stuck in the Sympathetic Response?

Drop in to your parasympathetic response - book a Naturopathic bodywork session with Dr. Nicole Duffee.

Is this you?

- can't relax

- frozen with fatigue

- bloated and not digesting well

The culprit may be your nervous system - stuck in fight-or-flight.

I've been caught in this same scenario and when I'm too tired to remember supplements, workout or cook great meals, my go-to move is to book a session of bodywork.

Here are my top 3 techniques for achieving the calm that helps your own nervous system start to re-establish balance in areas like: sleep, muscle tension and digestion:

1. CranioSacral therapy - this therapy is often used in concussion clinics, is very gentle and besides relieving tension anywhere in the body (not just the cranium or sacrum), it also helps release somatized emotion.

2. Bowen therapy - this gentle technique is deeply relaxing and great for chronic or acute pain in an ongoing stress cycle.

3. Acupuncture with cupping - a good choice for mobilizing tissue and fascia when you've been tense due to overwork or exercise.

Try each technique separately or in combos. My approach is to stay curious and open to whatever ideas arise in our session. Within a few sessions of Naturopathic bodywork, you will remember just how good it feels to rest-and-digest with the power of your parasympathetic.

I welcome all patients of the clinic for these sessions and new patients alike.

Lab Testing

TO TAKE OR NOT TO TAKE A STATIN - Lipoprotein (B) and Coronary Artery Calcium Score Tests

A common topic discussed in my office relates to treating elevated cholesterol with a statin as a means to prevent a cardiovascular event.

Many patients I see are recommended statins and ask my opinion whether I see it necessary. In some cases, I see it necessary, where as in others situations I am not certain based on the information I have.

It’s in the latter situation that I would often recommend further testing. This often includes a lipoprotein (a). It’s a biomarker, easily measured in the blood that can provide further information on a person’s risk of developing certain cardiovascular diseases. In addition, a coronary artery calcium score can be helpful to assess the risk of coronary artery disease. It measures the amount of calcium in the walls of the coronary artery and provides a score. Higher scores indicate higher level of plaque indicating atherosclerosis.

When it pertains to primary prevention of cardiovascular events, it’s estimated that the number needed to treat with a statin is about 50 to prevent one cardiovascular event. These two tests can give helpful information if you are likely a person who may benefit from a statin or if you may fall into the group of people where it likely won’t provide any benefit.

Online Dispensary Now Available for our Patients

I am very excited to announce that after several months of hard work, our son Devan Parmar has made our in-house clinic pharmacy available remotely for our patients!

Devan sourced the optimal software to allow for easy and convenient online ordering for our very competitively priced professional supplements and nutraceuticals, which will be delivered right to your door! This is especially critical for our patients from remote areas of BC, and all of those from outside BC and Canada.

Most of our patients that already purchase their supplements from our White Rock clinic dispensary tell us that our prices are very good even when compared to a giant online company, who’s name will not be named.

You can find our online natural pharmacy here:

https://ihcsupplements.company.site/

This online sales project has been especially important for my practice, as so many of my patients are from across Canada and the USA. Finding the prescribed supplements has long been a challenge for many patients. Our new online dispensary is going to make the logistics of care so much easier for so many of our patients, and that is great.

Happy shopping!

Sincerely,

Gurdev Parmar, ND, FABNO

However, regenerative medicine offers innovative treatments that address the root cause of pain rather than merely masking symptoms. This blog explores three leading regenerative therapies: Neural Therapy, Prolotherapy, and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy, and their applications in various conditions.
